About This Activity
P3 - Peak Performance Professionals will once again present Pewaukee Lake Open Water Swims on Monday evenings. The swim training will continue to include a safe swim environment, open water swim instructional clinics, swim race simulations, and wetsuit demo nights. Each swimmer under the age of 18 must have a parent contact P3 (262-439-8601) before registering for the swim or a clinic. Any swimmer under the age of 18 will be required to attend a clinic.
P3 is excited to have Swim Coaches; Anita Krier, Molly Strahota and Heather Haviland leading the open water swim instruction and clinics.
Each open water swim will have a ¼ mile well marked course, switching swim directions weekly. Each swimmer will receive a swim cap based on novice or intermediate+ level.
Beginner and intermediate clinics will be offered throughout the month of June. The clinics will be about 45 minutes and include an optional 1/4-mile swim where you will have the opportunity to practice everything you learned! For those in the beginner clinic your coach will help you decide if you are ready for the 1/4-mile swim. Anyone with limited open water experience is encouraged to register for a beginner clinic. Each clinic requires a minimum of 4 participants.
The beginer clinic will provide an opportunity for the swimmer to get comfortable swimming in open water while learning the swim segment of a triathlon from our open water clinic opportunities. The coaches will demonstrate key open water swimming skills and provide sufficient of time to practice course sighting, turning around buoys, drafting and mass starts. Tips for dealing with pre-race jitters, positioning at the start of the race, swimming in a wetsuit and remaining calm in the water will be shared.
The Intermediate clinic is aimed at swimmers with prior open water experience who want to increase open water comfort and get faster in their open water times. Swimmers will learn to adapt pool strokes to the waves, chop and current of open water; this clinic will provide realistic but low-pressure simulations of open water racing for current and aspiring triathletes. All participants MUST be able to swim at least 500 meters in a pool to participate.
Topics will include:
The Ins and Out of a wetsuit
Entry & exit techniques
Buoy navigation and effective turning
Sighting tips, Drafting
400 meter race simulation at the end of the clinic
