About This Activity

  1. The longboard races will occur on Saturday January 4th, 2014. The longboard races will consist of a three course race, open to all age groups both male and female.  There will be a one mile race for the Guinness World Record™, a ½ marathon and a kids/beginners race. The International distance skateboard association will sanction this Flager ½ Marathon and 1 Mile Guinness World Record™  longboard race to help grow the sport as well as provide insurance for the event. The event will be held in Flagler Beach.  The longboard Races will utilize a proprietary stop watch print timing system. All competitors will be required to wear a bib in order to keep an exact count of competitors and official times. There will be two water stations set-up for the ½ marathon race, the first at the turn around point on the Lehigh trail .27 mile east of Old Kings Lane.

    1. ½ Marathon race is open to any participant that wants to challenge their endurance. The race will Start and Finish at Wadsworth. Once the last participant begins their second lap at Wadsworth Park, the kids/beginner participants will follow behind the pack . The race will end at Wadsworth Park.

    2. The Kids/Beginner Challenge is designed to encourage spectator and community participation in the event. The challenge will be a race that follows Roberts Road to Colbert Lane and back (2.26 miles). The goal for the Challenge is to form a foundation in which we could continue to build into an event that involves, engages, and gives back to the community. The kids race course will begin and end at Wadsworth Park.

The 1 mile race is for the fastest time on a longboard for the Guinness World Record™.  The course will run along A1A, with street closures required for 25-30 minutes. The race will begin just past 16th S. Street and run for one mile on A1A ending at the Flagler Beach Fishing Pier.

    1. At the completion of the first two races, all event participants will be advised to move their vehicles to park in public parking spots on local streets surrounding the Flagler Beach Fishing Pier for the 1 mile race.

    2. Registration and Check-in will be available on Friday at 6PM at The Golden Lion (386-439-3004) at 500 North Ocean Shore Blvd., Flagler Beach, Florida and on Saturday in the Publix Parking Lot Exit adjacent to the Race Start/Finish Area from 7AM – 7:45AM. The shuttle will stop at both race start points, Lehigh Trail and Wadsworth Park. The ½ marathon race will begin at 8AM, the beginners/kids race will begin once the ½ marathon racers pass the starting line at Wadsworth Park and begin a 2nd lap.   

    3. Final Race Instructions will be held 15 minutes prior to the start of each race.  A concert sound system will be used and a wireless microphone will be provided to the race official for final race instructions to competitors.

    4. An emergency services Ambulance should be notified and left on standby in case an emergency occurs. No generators will be used, and there will be plenty of shade available via sponsored umbrellas and tents.  

    5. An athlete recovery area will be available upon completion of the race near the finish line.

About the courses: 

The Half Marathon will consist of two laps. It will Start and Finish on Roberts Road next to Wadsworth Park.  The race will consist of a 6.55 mile Out and Back Course that follows Roberts Road North towards its intersection with Colbert Lane.  Participants will head North for ¼ mile to the Lehigh Trail Entrance and follow the Lehigh Trail until they arrive at the Event Water Station which is located .27 mile east of the Old Kings Lane Trailhead.  There will be a cone or volunteer checking numbers of participants ensuring that all have made it to the checkpoint 2 times to complete their race.  

 

Kids/Beginners Official Course  - The race course will begin on Roberts Road in the same place where the Half Marathon runs.  The Course will be out and back for a total of 2.26 miles and will travel the entire Roberts Road. ALL BEGINNERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO USE THE PROVIDED IDSA TSHIRT FOR ACCURATE TIMING.

 

Mile Official Course  - The race will begin at 16th Street south and continue on A1A for 1 mile and end at Flagler Beach Fishing Pier.

The Flagler Beach Skate Vacation is quickly approaching, here is some additional information to ensure a smooth event! Please remember, register online for discounted rates, all prices increase January 3rd 2014.The races will take place on Saturday January 4th, 2014. There will be a welcoming party at the Golden Lion located at 500 N. Oceanshore Blvd., Flagler Beach, FL (Telephone: 386.439-3004.) on Friday, January 3rd.You may register at this location from 6:00PM till 9:00PM. If you are unable to attend the welcoming, don’t worry we will have registration available the morning of the races at the start finish line at Roberts road from 7AM – 7:45AM. The Beginners 2.26 miles race will run directly with the half marathon race in two heats. The half marathon heat will start at 8:00AM SHARP and the beginners race will begin shortly after. We have also arranged a water station on the course. Parking will be available Publix, Beach Village located at 414 Beach Village Drive, Flagler Beach, FL 32136 (Telephone: 386.517.2776) Directly following these races will be the 1 Mile Race for the Guinness World Record on A1A in Flagler Beach. Two names worth mentioning that will be competing for the title is Robin ”The Leg” McGuirk and Kaspar Heinrici. There will be public parking available along A1A or side streets off A1A. The 1 mile race will start on 16th Street beginning at 10:30AM SHARP and run north to the Flagler Beach Fishing Pier. A1A will be blocked off from traffic to ensure the safety of all the participants. Join us at Fuego Del Mar for the post party located at 608 S. Oceanshore Blvd, Flagler Beach (Telephone: 386.439.0098) starting at 12:00PM on Saturday after the races.
