RACE One Small Step to Build a Stronger Community! The inaugural Space Race is a two and four-mile walk/run throughout Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex that benefits the United Way of Brevard. Walk or run through the historic Rocket Garden where America’s history in space is revealed, the booster stack that graces the entryway to Space Shuttle Atlantis® and our newest attraction, Heroes & Legends featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. Award winners in each category will receive their award from retired shuttle astronaut Jon McBride. After the race, enjoy a beer or wine in the Rocket Garden at the after-race party. This family friendly event is open to guests of runners for an additional $2.50 per person.

SHIRTS Only pre-registered runners that successfully complete the registration and payment process by January 13, 2017 are guaranteed a free race shirt. Several hundred additional shirts will be printed for the race. Those participants who have pre-registered by January 19, 2017 are first to receive their shirt and preferred size.

PROCEEDS Proceeds will benefit the United Way of Brevard. More than 82,000 people live in poverty in Brevard, experiencing challenges with hunger, homelessness, domestic violence and health. United Way knows that prevention is key! They leverage resources and partnerships to improve the efficiency and capacity of services in our region. These services create measurable impact in our communities.
TIMING & SCORING All participants will be chip timed. Scoring for 2 mile by top 10 men and top 10 women finishers, scoring for 4 mile by age groups.
Kennedy Space Center is protected as a federal government facility. For the safety of visitors and employees, the following items are not permitted at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex:
Firearms of any type, including those belonging to off-duty law enforcement
Ammunition of any type
Pepper or Mace sprays
Knives of any type, including any item with a blade
Additionally, large coolers, luggage and other large bags are not permitted through the front gate. Be prepared: all bags, backpacks and other items may be opened and inspected at the discretion of security officers. If any of the above items are discovered, you will be asked to return them to your vehicle. If you choose not to return the items to your vehicle, you must surrender them to a security officer. Surrendered items will not be returned to you. All visitors must pass through a metal-detecting magnetometer screening device.
When and where does the race take place? 7:30 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2017, at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
How long is the course? 2 Mile run-walk course and a 4 mile run-walk course.
How will I be timed? There will be a clock and chip timing at the finish line to view your time.
When and where do I pick up my registration materials? Packet pickup for those pre-registered will take place on race day from 5:00pm-7:00pm - Friday, January 20. Registration on race day starts at 5:00 p.m. for all participants not pre-registered.

What if I need help along the way? Qualified emergency medical professionals are available to provide assistance at the start/finish lines.
Can I participate in the event with my dog? Sorry, as much as we love our pets too, the safety of participants is our main concern. Therefore, we do not allow pets on the course.
I will be out of town on race day and not able to participate. Can I get my money returned? We appreciate your race registration. As the race brochure states, we are unable to issue refunds. We are not in a position to credit your credit card or issue checks.
Will the race be held if it's raining? The race is a "rain or shine" event. All participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, such as in a rain coat or hat. Umbrellas can pose a safety hazard to others, so please do not bring them.
Can I transfer my entry to someone else? We have a strict NO TRANSFER policy.
Where do I park? Parking is available on site at race location in lots 4 & 5. Free parking will be available beginning at 5:00 PM.
