9th Annual Olathe Medical Center Women’s Triathlon and Duathlon

Olathe Medical Center is proud to be the title sponsor of the 9th Annual Triathlon & Duathlon. This USAT sanctioned event features a sprint distance triathlon and duathlon throughout the scenic remnant prairie and lowland riparian woodlands of Kill Creek Park. Your kind donation during registration to the Olathe Medical Center Charitable Foundation will benefit the OMC Cancer Care Center.

Event details and schedule

Triathlon Course*

Swim: The swim course is 500 meters in length. The swim start will be a time trial start with two people entering the water every three seconds. Race morning, you will place yourself by the appropriate pace sign according to your swim time.

Bike: The bike course is a 10.6 mile partially hilly loop course held both within and outside the park boundaries.

Run: The run course is a 3.1 mile (5K) route on the Kill Creek Streamway Trail which adjoins with Kill Creek Park. This route provides some of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the region. Aid stations are at transition and throughout the course.

Team: Participants also have the option to compete in this course as a team, in a relay format. Each individual of the team can complete one or two legs for the triathlon. There is a three member maximum on the team and at least two members are required in order to compete in the team category.

*Athena Category

The triathlon race includes an Athena Division. The division is 165 lbs. and over. The division age categories are 39 years of age and under, and 40 years of age and over. This age is based on the athlete’s age on December 31st of this year (2016). Participants are not eligible to compete in this division and in an age group division.

Duathlon Course                    

Run: The race will have a mass start for all duathletes on the park road. The first and second run is a 3.1 mile (5K) route on the Kill Creek Streamway Trail which adjoins with Kill Creek Park. This route provides some of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the region. Aid stations are at transition and throughout the course. The second run will be the same as the first run, and will be the same route as the triathletes.

Bike: The bike course is a 10.6 mile partially hilly loop course held both within and outside the park boundaries.

Team: Participants also have the option to compete in this course as a team, in a relay format. Each individual of the team can complete one or two legs for the duathlon. There is a three member maximum on the team and at least two members are required in order to compete in the team category.

 Micro-Distance Triathlon Course*

Swim: The swim course is 200 meters in length. The swim start will be a time trial start with two people entering the water every three seconds. Race morning, you will place yourself by the appropriate pace sign according to your swim time.

Bike: The bike course is a 5.4 mile partially hilly loop course held within the park boundaries.

Run: The run course is a 2 mile route on the Kill Creek Streamway Trail which adjoins with Kill Creek Park. This route provides some of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the region. Aid stations are at transition and throughout the course.

Team: Participants also have the option to compete in this course as a team, in a relay format. Each individual of the team can complete one or two legs for the triathlon. There is a three member maximum on the team and at least two members are required in order to compete in the team category.

 

Dive into Training!

JCPRD will offer open water swim training for all athletes competing in this event. Shawnee Mission Park Beach will host open water swim on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm starting May 26 through July 28. Cost is $4.00 per participant, per visit ($4.50 per non-JoCo resident).

There will also be open water swim at the scheduled event venue, Kill Creek Beach, every Monday from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm starting June 6 through September 5. Cost is $4.00 per participant, per visit ($4.50 per non-JoCo resident).

All triathletes are welcome. Wetsuits are allowed.

 

Pre-Race Orientation:

Friday, September 9th at 6 PM at Kill Creek Park Beach House – ALL FIRST TIME ATHLETES ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND!

 

Awards

Awards will be presented to the top three female and team overall finishers in each of the courses. Individual awards will be presented to the top 3 athletes of each age division, as listed below:
