About This Activity
The NYARA Hike-A-Thong is becoming the traditional "knock the cobwebs off your body and get moving again before race season starts" event. The great thing is that if you've sat on your duff all winter, you can still rock this low-key, yet fun race. Well, "race" is a strong word. It's more like people wearing NYARA thongs running around the woods for a few hours. Come to race and win fabulous prizes or come out to hike and just enjoy the beauty of the great northeast while sporting your NYARA thong.

Event details and schedule
The 2015 Hike-a-Thon(g) will have a fresh new format! A total distance of 13 miles will be broken down into three short loops; 3.7 miles, 4.6 miles, and 4.7 miles. Each runner will receive a trail map with the loops marked. After that, it’s decision time! Runners may complete the loops in any order, and in any direction they choose. If you’re not up for the full distance, pick one or two loops and have fun with it. Each loop will have 2 or 3 trail-side checkpoints to punch along the way. Do as much as you like. If you do all three loops twice for a full marathon distance, you get a special prize. (Spoiler Alert: the special prize is the privilege of collecting the CP flags for me on your second go-around).
BREAKING NEWS!! Also new for 2015 will be a fun relay option! Bring one or two of your friends to divide and conquer the 3-loop course as a team. Everyone gets maps, your “baton” will be your passport.
All travel will be on trails, which are very well blazed. Don’t be deceived by the short distances, the terrain is still challenging (the shortest loop still has an overall vertical gain of 780 feet.) But every loop has its payoffs: scenic vistas, lake views, awesome stone ruins, and one checkpoint location you won’t soon forget!Hope to see you out there!
