About This Activity

We are delighted to announce the inaugural Carter’s Crash Course for Juvenile Diabetes Obstacle Race & Wellness Fair to be held on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 1pm at Boettler Park in Green, Ohio to benefit the American Diabetes Association.  With sponsorships from Akron Children's Hospital, Akron General Medical Center - Sports Medicine, Giant Eagle Market District in Green, Papa Johns, SPA CPA's and other local businesses we are hoping to raise $8,000!

Carter Hosfeld is a 9 year old in Green Local Schools who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2013.  Carter had all the signs of Juvenile Diabetes, but since we knew nothing about diabetes and we just had a new baby it never crossed our minds.  It doesn't run in our familes and T1D is not genetic, it's an autoimmune disease.  We didn't recognize Carter's signs for about six months.  We brushed it off as he was growing, getting taller & older.  He was loosing weight, thirsty, hungry, urinating frequently & towards the end enduring head aches.  We called his doctor one day when he looked pretty pale and had a bad headache.  We told the nurse all his symptoms and she said bring him in ASAP! After that we rushed him to the ER with a blood sugar over 600 and an A1C of 11! We spent 3 days in the hosptial with him while our world got turned up side down.  Now Carter cannot live without insulin which he was injecting himself 5-7 times a day, but just a few weeks ago he got on an insulin pump where we change his site every 3 days.   Carter is very passionate about finding a cure and bringing awareness to Diabetes especially Juvenile Diabetes.  A few months after Carter was diagnosed we created Carter’s Cruisers because we want to make an impact in our Community & spread awareness. We wanted to do something different than a just a race and create a fun community event focusing on a healthy lifestyle.

You can also register at Packet Pick-up Saturday September 20th from 4-6pm at the Torok Center outdoor Pavilion in Green located at 4224 Massillon Rd.
