Team Information FAQ
Who can be on a fundraising team?
High school and Middle school students can form teams with up to 4 participants. Elementary school students can form teams with up to 10 participants. You can also form a team of any size and age under “other” but this category will not be awarded any prizes.
How do I win the prizes?
Prizes are awarded to the team that raises the most money in each of 3 age categories: High school, Middle School, and Elementary School.
What are the prizes?
The High School prize is Jingle Ball concert tickets! The middle school prize is your choice of tickets to either a Jets, Giants, Nets, OR Devils game. The elementary school prize is a game truck party. The “other” category is not prize eligible.
How do I form a team?
Register for the race at npedfoundation.org. Follow the prompts to form a new team. The person who forms the new team is the “Team Captain”. When friends register and want to join the team, they should your team in the registration process.
Do I have to register for the race to be on a team?
Yes, you must register online for the 5k run/walk to be on a team, however you can donate to a team without registering for the race.
I already registered; can I still join a team?
Yes! You can modify your registration at any time to create or join a team. Log in on your registration page and follow the prompts.
How do I fundraise for my team?
The team captain will receive a donation packet via the mail or at school within a few days of creating their team. Each member collects money from friends, family, etc. and keeps it in this packet. Start your fundraising early! Make sure to tell those donating that their donation goes directly to funding education grants in the school. Don’t forget, all donations are tax deductible.
What do I do with my completed donation packet?
Donation packets with the entire teams’ collections are due at pre-race check-in on Saturday October 15th at 12 noon. YOU MUST DELIVER YOUR DONATIONS BY THIS TIME IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR PRIZES
Where will the money raised go?
100% of the money raised goes to the New Providence Education Foundation. The members of NPEF and their supporters raise and distribute monies for all 4 schools in the New Providence School District. These grants are teacher-initiated, help supplement existing programs, and provide for new and innovative efforts, many of which would not otherwise be funded.
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes, all donations the NPEF are tax deductible.
I registered as a family; can individuals within my family be on different teams?
Yes, there is an option to pick/create a team for each individual family member.
Does my registration count towards fundraising?
No, as a portion of the registration fee does not go to the NPEF.
To whom should I make checks payable?
Please make all checks payable to the New Providence Education Foundation.
When will I receive my fundraising prize?
If your team raises the most amount of money in your category, you will receive your prizes at the conclusion of the 5K Campaign; on or around October 17th.
I have additional questions, who can I contact?
Can I run with a jogging stroller and my kids?
YES – Strollers are allowed and we encourage the whole family to run! Given this is a certified Grand Prix USATF race, we will ask the strollers to allow the runners to be toward the front of the line
Can I run with my dog?
For the safety of our runners, we do not allow animals to run with you.
Is there an age limit for younger runners?
No age limits! If they can cover (running, jogging, walking, strolling) the three miles of course, they can participate. We will also have games/races for the younger children. The following Fun Run that starts at 10am will have the following races by age groups:
Ages 3-5 - 50 yrd dash
Ages 5-7 - 400 meters / 1/4 miles or once around the track
Ages 8-10 - 800 meters/ 1/2 miles or twice around the track
Are there refunds?
Unfortunately, we cannot issue refunds.
Is the event timed?
Yes the race is timed. This is an official race timed by Compuscore.
Can I walk the course?
Of course! We do ask that walkers please start behind the runners.
What is included with my Registration?
Participants receive a NPEF 5k t-shirt, race bib and a few other goodies in a re-usable bag.
When and where do I pick up my race packet?
There will be Saturday, October 15th Pick up at the NPHS location between 10-12 Noon and 3-6pm. Registration can also be done. Same day registration pick up can happen starting at 8am.
Can someone else pickup my race packet for me?
Yes they are welcome to pick up your race packet
What if I get tired or pull a muscle and can’t complete the course?
There will be volunteers stationed throughout the course to contact assistance. Medic Rescue is on standby the day of the 5K. There is also police support stationed throughout the course as well, if additional assistance is needed.
Are restrooms available along the route?
Restroom facilities will be available at the high school.
Will water be provided along the race route?
Yes there will be one water station mid way through the race.
Will refreshments be provided?
Fruit and water are available at the end of the race.
Will you have a bag check?
No, a bag check will not be provided.
If I am not interested in running or walking a 5K, can I still show up and support the cause somehow?
Yes. You can always make a donation in support of the 5K. We are also in need of volunteers that can help on the day of the 5K.
Do I have to have pledges/sponsors?
We strongly encourage individuals to find sponsors although, it is not required. There is, however, a registration fee to participate.
Can I sign up on the day of the 5K?
You are able to register the day of the 5K. There is a slightly higher registration fee, and you are not guaranteed a T-shirt. We also ask that you please be patient when waiting in line.
