New Braunfels, TX

About This Activity

Surrounded by limestone cliffs and encircled by the Guadalupe River it’s hard to imagine a more scenic location than the Lazy L & L valley property. Tour de Gruene Individual Time Trials are a competition. Participants begin 30 seconds from the next competitor and then race down River Road completing a 15.5 mile course against the clock for awards in various gender, equipment, age, and ability divisions.

Registration discounts already included for early entries.

Entrants receive a quality event t-shirt AND an admission ticket to Wurstfest AND a dinner served at the awards ceremony. Shower token upon request.

No Racing License of any kind required!

Field Limit of 250   After that, a waiting list will be formed.  (We have sold out the last 4 years)

Divisions will be formed first by gender, then by equipment (aero or Merckx), then by age, and then by ability.

  • AERO  or  Merckx:  The use of standard helmets, standard wheels, and standard kit of shorts and a jersey is called riding Merckx style. During registration, you have the option of racing in Merckx or Aero Divisions. If racing in Merckx you may not have any aero equipment. No aero helmets, suits, shoe covers, wheels, tear shaped (or aerodynamically framed tubes), or aero bars. Rims cannot exceed 30 mm in depth. Frame tubing can be of any material and both round or oval is exceptable for Merckx.
  • Before you go to the online registration site you will need to predict your mph pace to the nearest tenth for completing the  ITT course. That means 3 digits (example: 19.7).  You may go back and change this estimate any time before the event closes out. (see website for instructions)

Racers will be “seed started” according to their supplied predicted average mph for the course. Last year's winner and any course record holders are given the honor of being seeded last. Timing is recorded from the appointed start time, until the leading edge of the front wheel crosses the finish line

START for the I T T will be at the Lazy L & L on River Road -  a few miles north of Gruene.  See Map on our webpage.  The Time Trial is a point to point.  After crossing the finish line you will be offered a shuttle for the 10 mile return to the Lazy L & L

Tour de Gruene awards are presented during an awards dinner (dinner ticket included) in the Lazy L&L Dance Hall. Awards to top times in each division. Quantity of prizes awarded is dependent upon total entries per division -typically 3 places. Horseshoes, washers and sand volleyball courts surround the pavilion.

Like to camp or RV?  Reserve a site through L & L and gather with other cyclists along the river for the weekend. Special event rates can be found on our website.

Come race scenic River Road, enjoy the charm and ambiance of the Lazy L & L, and head on over to Wurstfest for the German Festival or go shopping in Gruene.  We hope you will join us!
