About This Activity

On April 20th & 21st, 1791, President George Washington visited New Bern, NC as part of his "Southern Tour."  His goals for the tour were to personally observe the condition of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia and assure himself of the strength of the newly formed United States of America in this region.

Are you a RUNNER and a HISTORY BUFF??  Join us the weekend of April 24-26, 2015, as the New Bern Preservation Foundation and Tryon Palace recreate some of the events that were held for the president during his visit.  In addition to a parade, a formal gala, tours of various historical sites in town and many other exciting events, we are holding the inaugural "Run with George"    10 Miler, 5K,  and Kids' Fun  Run.  The races will begin at the gates of Tryon Palace and end at the Tryon Palace History Center, passing by many beautiful historical sites along the routes.  We are proud to introduce one of the only 10 milers east of Raleigh, especially one with the task of supporting and preserving the rich history of this beautiful area.

This is a very family friendly event, and we invite you to bring everyone for the weekend to participate in all of the fun activities!  There are plenty of great hotels and bed & breakfasts and several award winning restaurants in downtown New Bern.  The perfect spring weekend awaits!
