About This Activity

Can you beat the tide to Cayucos?   There will be a large incoming tide on race day-making the course more of a challenge.

2014 marks the 45th year of the Brian Waterbury Memorial Rock to Pier Fun Run. This approx 6 mile run/walk is held entirely on the beach from Morro Rock to the Cayucos Pier. This event is open to all ages and abilities.  At 8:45am it will be difficult to pass 3rd street in Cayucos--will get wet.

2014 will also mark the 3rd year for the Rock'n Around the Pier Half Marathon. This 13.1 mile event begins at Morro Rock, continues to the Cayucos Pier, turn around and head back towards Morro Rock. At 10.5 miles the course will veer off the beach (through soft sand) and will follow a 1 mile loop through a local park returning to the beach (through soft sand) and finish at Morro Rock. Please note that the course will be closed at 9:30 am.   Because of the tide, the run may require you to traverse through the rocks at North Point.  Runners who are not at the Pier by 1 hour 20 minutes will be asked to return to Morro Bay by bus.

Parking is limited in Cayucos and all participants for the Rock to Pier Run are encouraged to return to Morro Bay via provided Bus transportation.  There is plenty of parking at Morro Rock and nearby.   Arrive early.

Event schedule and times

Due to tide conditions, both events will begin at 6:30 am. There will be a staggered start by pace time and individual gun start for each group.  There is a large incoming tide making this year's event a challenge.   Rock to Pier participants finishing under 2 hours should not have any problems beating the tide to Cayucos.

For the Half Marathon Runners, the return trip might be a challenge at North Point.   Half Marthon Runners who do not make it the Cayucos Pier by 1 hour 20 minutes will be asked to take the bus back to Morro Bay.  The 1 mile loop off the beach will still be held at the end of the event, to beat the tide.

Packet Pick-up will be held at the Morro Bay Community Center, 1001 Kennedy Way, Morro Bay on Friday July 11 from 4-7 pm.   We encourage participants to pick up packets on Friday evening.   Late pick-ups will be held at Morro Rock from 5:45 am-6:15 am.
