About This Activity

Show your heart some LOVE! Join us the day after Valentine’s Day as we celebrate our 2nd Annual AGAPE (Love) Run with a 5k and 1 Mile “Sweetheart Sprint” (Fun Run)

Run/walk in your favorite "love-themed" costume--best costume wins the door prize!

AGAPE (Love) Run is an annual outreach event of Taylor Road Baptist Church designed to reach out to those who have experienced significant challenges in life.  This event serves as a tool to help meet the financial needs of the recipient the race is in honor of.  This year’s recipient, the Eaves family, truly exemplifies the theme we’ve chosen, “Show Love” and all proceeds of the run will go to the family.

Mike and Bonnie Eaves have been married for 26 years and are the parents of four children-Anna, age 17; Cecil, age 11; Sarah Janice, age 9; and Mattie age 3. Their youngest three joined the family as foster children but have since been successfully adopted into the Eaves’ family. In 2011, Bonnie was diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer (Hurthle Cell Carcinoma) that, unbeknownst to her, would begin a process of cancer movement throughout her body. During that year she had two surgeries to remove her thyroid as well as underwent radioactive iodine treatment to help destroy any microscopic thyroid tissue that may have remained after surgery.  Late 2011, a PET scan revealed Bonnie’s cancer had metastasized to her bones and lodged near her spinal cord. In the midst of this, Mike and Bonnie continued to take care of two infant foster children, fulfilling what they felt was the call of God for them.

After Bonnie received radiation treatment, her doctors determined that her cancer was a slow-growing cancer and only required monitoring. In the spring of 2013, Bonnie began what the doctors have termed “preventive” chemo.  Today, she continues treatment and holds tight to God’s promise in 1 Thessalonians 5:24, “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it”.  Bonnie has been graced with an optimistic prognosis through both her local physicians and Houston clinic doctors.
