About This Activity

The "Sweet Run" is a 5K event held each fall to support the work of the South Texas Juvenile Diabetes Association, and raise awareness about the needs of children with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in our community.

Event details and schedule

Sorry, Online registration is now closed but, you can still register  at Valley Running Co. on Nov. 7 from 4-7 pm located at South Shary Rd.  or on the day of the event. We recommend you come on Friday to avoid last minute rush.


PLEASE NOTE: Event is NOT in the same place as last year! It will start at the parking lot of the Mission Sports Complex, behind Valley Running Co. in Shary Road.

Packet Pick up at Valley Running Co. In South Shary Road, Mission Friday  Nov.7 from 4-7 pm

Run will start at 8:00 sharp and walk at 9:00. Please take your time and come early: the Mission Sports Complex has abundant parking but we'd like for you to find a nice parking spot and get there without rushing :-)

Rules for On-site Contests:

T-shirt Contest:

  • To participate in the contest, someone from the team must be present and wear the T-shirt during opening ceremony.

  • Winners will be chosen based on public appreciation (applause).

  • The winning T-shirt will be recognized with an award at the opening ceremony.

Largest/Most Spirited Teams:

As a token of appreciation, we would award the team that has the most members and also the team that shows the most festive spirit. Those will also be awarded during opening ceremony and with the help of the audience.

Diabetes poster contest: (for children with diabetes only)

During the Sweet Run we have the opportunity to display handmade posters to show our appreciation for those that are running/walking for our cause. With that in mind, we want to invite all our children with diabetes to make a poster that will express gratitude to the community for their support and also explain what is like to have diabetes (you can tell them the “good” parts too) and any other aspect of how your life is like with coping with D.

On the day of the run, we will award the author of the best poster with a pair of running shoes from Valley Running Co.

 Posters should be brought to Valley Running Co. in S. Shary Road on November 7 or given to a member of STJDA no later than Nov. 7.

Posters will be displayed during the run at the Start/Finish Line. The winner will be chosen by ballots collected the day of the event. There is no specific requirement on size, color or style. Be creative! The only rule is to add in the right upper corner of the poster, the following information:

Poster Title/Number assigned, Name of the author, gender, age, age when first diagnosed

You can submit posters by family or by “team” but only one winner (a child with diabetes) will be awarded. Posters will be kept at STJDA once the event has concluded.

During the STJDA event on October 25th, we will have a table for children to work on their posters.
