MIDLAND, Mich. – Now’s the time to register for the April 14 Great Lakes Loons Pennant Race
at Dow Diamond and DIVE IN to the running and baseball seasons.
The 12th annual 5K run/walk will start at 10 a.m., followed by a one-mile fun run at 11:15 a.m. for
youngsters. All events begin between Dow Diamond and the East End Development on Main
Street. Due to the ongoing construction on the M-20 bridge, the 5K course this year takes racers up
and over the Tridge, onto the Chippewa Trail for a turnaround back toward Dow Diamond.
Through March 31, early registration for the 5K Pennant Race is $26 and the fun run is $10.
Registration is open through race day and includes post-race refreshments, a T-shirt and a sameday
lawn ticket to the Loons game against the Dayton Dragons at 2:05 p.m.
Online registration is available at greatermidland.org/races.
Custom awards, courtesy of the Great Lakes Loons, will be presented to first-, second- and thirdplace
overall and masters male and female finishers in the 5K run. The top five overall finishers,
male and female, in the 5K walk will also receive awards. The top three participants in each age
group will receive an award, as well as the top 10 boys and girls in the fun run. In addition, the top
overall boy and girl racers will throw out a first pitch at the game on race day.
Proceeds from the Loons Pennant Race will again be earmarked to purchase much-needed
equipment for the Midland Public Schools’ track and field program. The program hopes to
purchase pole vault poles, shot puts, discuses and crossbars for high jump, long jump and hurdles.
The Loons Pennant Race is part of the 2018 Be Greater Race Series and is sponsored by the Loons,
Quad Graphics, WalMart, ReMax, MidMichigan Health, Bob Evans, Chippewa Nature Center and
the Greater Midland Community Center.
