About This Activity
The 3rd annual Paynes Prairie 5K takes place on a scenic looped course within the Paynes Prairie State Park! This mixed-trail race starts at the picnic area near Lake Wauburg and follows the lake trail through the savannah's of Paynes Prairie and continues to an unmarked trail that winds through secluded areas of the park that are generally not open to the public. This portion of the race is flat with a very small portion of sand.
Racers will eventually be directed onto the main road inside the park where they can hydrate at the water stop in preparation of a flat and fast second half down Savannah Boulevard and Puggy Road. The course is known for a variety of wildlife viewing unique to Florida such as deer, tortoises, and birds, so keep an eye out for friendly park animals!
The Paynes Prairie 5K benefits the Friends of Paynes Prairie and Project Gainesville.
