About This Activity
The Samantha's Purpose Run, Walk & Stroll for Cerebral Palsy 2K is once again being hosted by The Village of Palmetto Bay at the breathtaking Coral Reef Park. This fun event has become the Cerebral Palsy Awareness event in South Florida, having been started by Samantha's Purpose (a/k/a Voices for Cerebral Palsy) in 2015.
This year's event will kick off Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month and help up spread the word about Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, which takes place on March 25th.
This special event will begin at 9 a.m. with on-site check-in and/or registration. We will have a fun breakfast for all participants. Then Youth n' Action Fitness will get everyone warmed up before the start of the 6th Annual Run, Walk & Stroll for Cerebral Palsy. We then ask everyone to join us for some fun kid activities after this special race.
WE ARE HAPPY TO SHARE that our 2019 Event raised had a net of more than $5,000 and this money has been given to the Village of Palmetto Bay. When the new Community Center or Recreation Center at Coral Reef Park is built it will include a Powered Height Adjustable Adult Changing Table. The proceeds from the 2020 event will be used to fund programs that are fully inclusive and support and improve the lives of those living with Cerebral Palsy.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SAMANTHA'S PURPOSE...Samantha's Purpose was co-founded by Jose "Manny" & Michelle Garcia and inspired by their daughter, Samantha, who has Cerebral Palsy. This organization is their way of following through with the promise they made to their daughter, they would give her disability a "purpose". Samantha’s Purpose is a 501(c)(3) charity. The mission of Samantha's Purpose is to increase awareness and understanding of Cerebral Palsy. We hold various awareness and fundraising events and the proceeds from these events are used to give back to the Cerebral Palsy community by:
- Providing funding for programs, schools, and camps that are fully inclusive and support and improve the quality of life of children with Cerebral Palsy;
- Providing guidance and support to families of children with Cerebral Palsy (and other special needs) by helping them navigate the maze of insurance, government programs, education, and doctors;
- Advocating for greater inclusion of those with Cerebral Palsy throughout the community. Our first step towards this is by raising awareness in the community about the need for fully inclusive restrooms throughout South Florida so that the disabled community (despite age or diagnosis) that require special bathroom assistance have the ability to enjoy their community and beyond.
