About This Activity

Mason, Texas is located in the northwest Hill Country approximately 100 miles from Austin, San Antonio and San Angelo.  The Mason Lions Charitable Foundation will host its 9th Annual Gem of the Hill Country 5K/10K Run/Walk on September 26, 2015 at 8AM and beginning just south of the Mason County Courthouse on Post Hill Street.  Come and run the trail that was traveled by native Americans, General Robert E Lee and numerous other historical figures that settled Texas.  This challenging race course is good training ground for individuals or teams that are training for future half or full marathons but easy enough for the novice runner or walker to enjoy.

The course is mostly paved except for 1/4 mile dirt street.  The race starts just south of Mason Courthouse on Post Hill Street and finishes at Mason County Library/Heritage Park.  The 10k is up and back course.  The 5K follows the same route but turns north on Post Hill Street at the 2 mile point and is all downhill from there.  The course takes you over Post Hill, site of Fort Mason, and provides overview of the city of Mason.  There are some challenging hills along the way.  Aid stations with H2O will be every mile.  First aid available on call with water and fruit at the finish.
