JANUARY 9, 1958 - April 29, 2013
Gregory “Guy” Miller, 55, of Minto, ND was swept away in the raging spring floodwaters on April 29, 2013. His body was recovered September 7, 2013.
Guy was born January 9, 1958 in Grafton, ND, the son of John "J.D." (deceased) and Marlys (Peterka) Miller. He was the second oldest of seven children. He attended school in Minto and graduated in 1976. Guy attended Wahpeton State School of Science, AVTI in East Grand Forks, MN, and the University of North Dakota.
Guy lived and farmed in the rural Minto area. He was everything: a father, a son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was also an electrician, carpenter, mason and concrete stamper, plumber, pilot, photographer, and comedian. He loved spending time with his son, Gavin, and enjoyed the warmth of the Arizona sun in the winter. He was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Veseleyville, ND.
Guy is survived by his son, Gavin Guy Miller, Park River; Mother: Marlys Miller, Minto; Siblings: Connie (Dan) Syrup, Grand Forks; Kelly (Brian) Schanilec, Forest River; John (Dawn) Miller Jr., Minto; Mary (Brian) Schuster, Minto; Anthony (Kimberly) Miller, Grand Forks; Katie (Gerard) Marino, Boston, MA. Also surviving are 31 nieces and nephews. Guy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Helen (Wellenger) and Floyd Miller; Agnes (Kadlec) and John “Jack” Peterka, Sr.
As his family’s way to remember Guy, they started the Guy Miller Memorial. In order to give back to those who helped search and recover Guy’s body, the Guy Miller Memorial 5K Run/Walk was established. The proceeds of this first annual 5K will benefit the Northeast Regional Water Operations Team.
