About This Activity
Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate and be thankful for the things we hold most dear: family, friends, food and running! The Annual West Texas Running Club (WTRC) Turkey Trot will bring together runners of all shapes and sizes, from young to old, serious to novice, mud thrill-seeker to the color-inspired to celebrate an early morning kick off to the Thanksgiving Day holiday. The Turkey Trot has become a running family tradition for many West Texas residents and visiting relatives and friends that come from cities all over Texas and from many other states and countries.
The Turkey Trot features a 2 Mile and a 12K Race. The 2 Mile event is a flat out and back course except for the downhill at the start and uphill at the finish. After exiting the Museum, runners in the 12K will encounter some challenging hills but will also be rewarded with some scenic views as they make their way around Canyon Lake #6 and through Mackenzie Park. The USA Track and Field certified 12K course finishes uphill back at the Bayer Museum. For a different challenge in the 2 Mile Race, consider forming a team to run in the Family, School or Open team divisions. Each team member must register separately as a member of a team and each team must have a minimum of 4 members. The team in each division with the 4 fastest cumulative times is crowned the winner.
Special Medals and Awards will be given to the Overall Male and Female winners in both races. 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place Medals will be given in each age group for both races. Finisher Medals will be given to all kids 7 – 12 in the 2 Mile race.
