About This Activity
Over the first three years we have hosted nearly 400 runners and raised well over $5,000 for local North Carolina Veteran's and their families. Last year, for the second straight year, records as both Matthew Calvelo (17:02) and Stephie Hall (20:47) took the overall titles – both establisehd new course records.
The race is put on by the Ernest Simmons VFW Post 6722 in Lillington. The race starts and finishes near the Harnett County Veteran’s Park located outside the Courthouse. The street address is 301 West Cornelius Harnett Boulevard.
The USATF certified course will be a mixture of trails and asphalt and is “relatively flat.” Click here to download a course map. The entry fee is $25, increasing to $30 after October 9th up to and including race day. T-shirts are guaranteed to all those registered by October 9th. Individuals who register after October 9th will be given a t-shirt based on availability. Awards will be presented to the top three male finishers, to the top three female finishers, and to the top three finishers (both sexes) in each of the following age divisions: 9-under, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-over. We are ceratin that you will not find better or more unique awards! ALLproceeds from the race will support the Harnett County Veteran's Council Scholarship Program as well as the "North Carolina" home on the grounds of the VFW National Home For Children.
Event details and schedule
On November 7, 2015, VFW Post 6722, the Ernest Simmons post, will host its fourth annual Veteran’s Day 5k Run/Walk.
The 3.1 mile, USATF certified course (Certification #NC12127PH) will be on trails as well as asphalt and is mostly flat.
The event will begin and end in the vicinity of the Harnett County Veteran’s Park outside the County Courthouse.
Volunteers and a water point will be stationed along the route to help motivate, encourage, and assist each participant as necessary.
Timing and scoring will be monitored by Young & Associates using a chip system.
Packet pick up and late registration will take place on race day from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

The race will begin promptly at 9 am. Ample parking as well as restroom facilities will be available in the parking lot surrounding the County Courthouse at 301 W. Cornelius Harnett Blvd. Lillington, NC 27546
