About This Activity

2nd Annual Cycling event in Memory of Tricia Creasey
Hedrick's Grove United Church of Christ
5687 East Old US Hwy 64, Lexington, NC
Tricia Creasey was a dedicated teacher who taught at Brown Middle School. Tricia and her family were profiled and the recipients of a new home from Extreme Makeover Home Edition. She was passionate about making learning and science fun and exciting for her students. In 2006, Tricia was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. Tricia was a fighter and she fought through surgeries, rounds of radiation, and chemotherapy. Tricia continued to teach, even scheduling her chemo treatments on Thursday to minimize her time away from her students. Even though she grew and tired from her chemo treatments, Tricia continued to fight, she didn’t want to leave her beautiful girls behind. Tricia lost her battle to cancer, but her sister, family, and Relay friends continue to keep her memory alive. Tricia’s sister, Sarah, who is an avid cyclist, envisioned a cycling event in Tricia’s memory. Shortly after, Tricia’s Ride For Life was born and the inaugural event was held on July 27, 2013.

We’d like to invite you to join us in the 2nd Annual Tricia’s Ride For Life and help us remember a loving and dedicated mother, sister, wife, friend, and teacher.
You’re helping us to carry on her passion of working to finding a cure for cancer.

The first annual Tricia's Ride for Life was a beautiful tribute to my sister's life.  The ride started with a balloon release and touching words dedicated to her memory.  The crowd of cyclist lined up at the start and were ready to get under way.  All the hard work of putting together a ride that would do her memory justice was about to culminate in a fun and challenging day for all who attended.   Looking out onto the crowd I recognized many faces, people I've ridden with and who have in the process become part of my family.   Having the cycling community come together to honor the memory of my sister was an incredibly touching moment in my life.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life was a huge passion for Tricia.  She believed that if we rallied together that we could indeed find a cure for cancer.   The money raised at Tricia's Ride for Life will help continue this fight.

Tricia’s dream was to see a world free of cancer so that nobody would have to go through the things she and so many others have experienced while battling cancer.  I am proud of the work that we've accomplished with this ride and am excited to see it continue to grow and progress each year.
