Join us for the 33rd annual Thoroughbred Classic 5K & Kay Collins Memorial Mile on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Lexington’s historic Keeneland Race Course.
Every Thanksgiving morning, runners and walkers from across the country come to Lexington, Kentucky, to take part in the Thoroughbred Classic 5K and Kay Collins Memorial Mile. Organized by Bluegrass Runners, the Thoroughbred Classic is a family-friendly event that benefits several local charities. Last year’s race had the largest attendance in its over 30-year history, allowing the Bluegrass Runners to present over $35,000 in donations to seven local charities. J.A. Laub Photography will be providing FREE low res downloads of race day photos and will sell high res photos - so bring the family and get a great Thanksgiving Day portrait at Keeneland!
Following on last year's new tradition, instead of being run separately, the first mile of the 5K race will be run in memory of Kay Collins and be the “Kay Collins Memorial Mile” — allowing everyone to celebrate her memory as well as the memory of other Bluegrass Runners and friends that we have lost over the years. THERE IS NO SEPARATE MILE COURSE.
While we do not encourage participation with strollers or dogs, we understand that Thanksgiving is a family holiday and that for some families, they cannot participate without bringing their stroller or dog. If that is the case, and you need to participate with a stroller or dog, you must purchase a $5 untimed bib for each stroller and each dog. If bibs are not purchased during registration, bibs will be available for purchase on race day. Also, all participants with strollers and dogs MUST start in the designated area BEHIND all the runners and walkers and must be personally responsible for any strollers or dogs and not disrupt any other participant on the course. NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES ARE PERMITTED. If you do not follow these, or any other rules, or do not purchase a bib, you will be removed from the course.
Overall, Masters, Grand Masters, Seniors, and Age Group Awards will be presented. Because we donate all proceeds to charity, no refunds, no exceptions.
While supplies last (approximately 2,200), registrants receive a commemorative long sleeve technical shirt. These are men's and women's sized shirts so make your size selection carefully. There will be NO SHIRT EXCHANGES on sizing until after the conclusion of the race. **THE SHIRTS WILL BE A DIFFERENT BRAND FROM LAST YEAR.** We think this year's shirts run more true to size than last year's, for example, a women's medium in last year's shirt fits more like a small in this year's. For a sizing chart, click here for the FAQ section of our webpage and scroll down to the shirt section. We will provide more information on shirt sizing and photos on the race web page.
This year we will again offer youth-specific shirts while supplies last (approximately 200). These are long-sleeve poly shirts in the following youth sizes:
Youth S (6-8) || Youth M (10-12) || Youth L (14-16) || Youth XL (18-20)
If you were among the first 1,000 registrants, you will receive a pair of PRO Compression (www.procompression.com) brand technical running socks. The socks are offered in S/M and L/XL sizes, with limited quantities of each size. Please arrive early for packet pick up for the best size selection.
Packet pickup will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20 and Wednesday, November 23 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. each day at Pivot Brewing, 1400 Delaware Avenue, Lexington, KY! Visit http://thoroughbredclassic5k.org/race-information/ for more details. We will also have race day packet pick up starting at 7:30 a.m.; however, we strongly encourage you to pick up your packet on one of the two packet pickup dates noted above. Otherwise, please make sure to arrive early (at least an hour) for race day packet pick up to avoid delays from traffic and parking.
