Join us for Central Kentucky's funnest holiday race!
The 4th Annual Spindletop Stache & Sweater Dash 5K will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 10am at Spindletop Hall in North Lexington. Bring your "Movember" growth or paste on mustache and your ugliest holiday sweater to compete for fun awards and the FUNNEST run/party of the holiday season. This will be the FUNNEST race of the winter season!
The inspiration for this race is Dr. Jules Heilser. In April 2014 Jules Heisler was diagnosed with lung cancer. This was a shock to both he and his family. Dr. Heisler had never smoked and had been an avid runner. As ironic as it is, he spent his entire career working for in the cancer field. In 1975 he was hired to work for Nixon's War on Cancer, this was the start to an almost 40 year career in the cancer field. During his career he worked a UK and earned his PhD from UK. His youngest daughter Stacey Williams felt that she had to do something. After researching and find that there were no lung cancer events in Kentucky, Stacey decided that she would start a 5K for lung cancer. Dr. Heisler would live to experience the inaugural Spindletop Stache & Ugly Sweater Dash from his home in North Carolina but died in January 2015. This years race will benefit the American Lung Association. The American Lung Association is dedicated to fighting lung cancer and other lung diseases.
Chip timing, Overall and AG awards, long sleeved performance shirts, DJ, Best Stache and Ugliest Sweater awards, face painting, scenic course and more!
Walkers are welcome as are walkers/runners with strollers. We just ask that those with strollers start the race near the back.
We will also have a Little Stache Kids Run (1K, .62 miles) and have a Virtual Runner category for those wishing to support the race/cause who can't make the event at Spindletop. Virtual Runners will need to register by November 23rd and we'll mail your race shirt to you so you can run/walk your own 5K on December 2nd.
