1K Kids Fun Run/Walk
About This Activity
Join us for the inaugural Ernie's Bacon Run 5K on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 9:00am at Spindletop Hall in North Lexington. In addition to the 5K we will have a Little Bacon Kids 1K (Presented by The Running Wife) at 8:30am.
Our race will honor Ernie Peel, longtime local runner who has helped hundreds and hundreds of Central Kentuckians find their love of running. Since Ernie also has a great love for bacon we'll have bacon (Thanks Lucky's Market!) for all finishers.
The race will benefit the Lexington Humane Society (www.LexingtonHumaneSociety.org). The mission of the Lexington Humane Society is to advocate the compassionate treatment of animals; educate the community on responsible, lifelong pet ownership; and promote adoption as the best option when searching for a new pet.
In addition to supporting the Lexington Humane Society we will also be taking donations of gently worn shoes to support Soles4Souls (www.Soles4Souls.org). Soles4Souls accepts all types of shoes: athletic, running, dress, sandals, pumps, heels, work boots, cleats, dance, flip flops, just as long as they are new or gently worn. Please bring your shoes on race morning and we'll have a bin to put them in.
We plan to have a chip timed, competitive 5K with overall & age group awards (5 year divisions, 3 deep M/F) and an untimed the1 kilometer (.62 mile) kids run/walk. Walkers, strollers and dogs on leashes are welcomed to participate in the 5K.
The race will feature commemorative tech shirts, DJ, a scenic course and bacon for all! Shirts are guaranteed for those adults and children who register by 2/22/17. After this date it will be first register first get for any surplus/extras we order over the amount registered by 2/22.
