About This Activity
31st Annual Open Options Shawnee Mission Triathlon
The 31st Annual Open Options Shawnee Mission Triathlon is a great competitive race and one of the Kansas City Metro Area's premier racing events. This closed course event offers a Short Triathlon Course (Sprint Distance), a Long Triathlon Course (International Distance), and a Duathlon Course for a wide range of national athletic racing talent. All of the courses are routed in Shawnee Mission Park and on the Mill Creek Streamway Trail System which adjoins to the park. Mtec Chip Timing-System will be used for accurate timing results. Aid stations will be placed at transition and at every other mile on the run. All age group athletes must participate and compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete’s age on December 31st of the year of the event. Individual awards will be presented to the top three male and female overall finishers in each course. Age group awards will be broken down into five year increments for both male and female divisions. The 2015 Open Options Shawnee Mission Triathlon is an USAT Sanctioned Event. Open Options Team Captains
This year we are excited to present a new feature to the event. Open Options (our title sponsor), formally UCP, will be engaging persons with disabilities who have overcome challenges to be involved in the triathlon in a new and exciting way. Open Options will provide seven individuals who will become “Team Captains” and provide encouragement and inspiration to participants through emails, videos, and social media. Participants who register for this event will be randomly assigned to one of the designated Team Captains. These Captains will be present event day to meet their teams as well as hand out finisher’s medals. As a Team Member you may choose to make a donation by creating a fundraising page (at the time of your event registration) or have others make a donation to your team on your behalf. This gesture is not mandatory for participation in the triathlon but is greatly appreciated. 100% of the donations will go directly to Open Options and make a significant difference in the lives of people with disabilities.
