FLATS Trail Half Marathon
Sat, Oct 4, 2014
About This Activity
The race will start at the Marina at Thousand Hills State Park (the flag pole marks the start), and follow the paved road for about 1.5 miles. This is the only paved portion of the event, and is necessary to allow racers to spread out before entering the singletrack. Once taking a left onto Thousand Hills Trail, racers will navigate the twists and turns, ups and downs, rocks, roots, and trees for approximately 11 miles. There are a few stream crossings, and inevitably there will be a small amount of mud. The trail will exit onto Rainbow Basin Tr., where racers will follow a gravel road for the final half-mile into Jackson Stables. There will be mile markers every half mile of the trail.
There will be 7 aid stations on the course, at slightly irregular intervals.
#1) Mile 1.5 #5) Mile 9.6
#2) Mile 3.2 #6) Mile 11.3
#3) Mile 5.2 #7) Mile 12.5
#4) Mile 7.7
All runners are encouraged to carry some calories and/or a hydration system or bottles which can be refilled at each stop. Water, sports drink, snacks, and gels will be provided along the course.
The cutoff for an official finish time will be 12:30 pm, but all athletes will be allowed to complete the course if they so choose.
The finish line will have water, sports drink, soft drinks, pizza, and snacks, along with complimentary wine tasting. Beer will be available for purchase.
Event details and schedule
Pre-race packet pickup will be held on Friday Oct. 3rd at the Thompson Campus Center (TCC) from noon until 10 p.m.
The race starts Saturday Oct. 4th at 8:30 a.m. - Race day packet pickup will begin at 7 AT THE STARING LINE!!! The first shuttle will leave the finish line area between 7 and 7:15. If you still need to pick up your packet AND you need to ride the shuttle, please be aware that your packet will be waiting for you at the starting line when the shuttle drops you off.
There is also a gear-drop for warm ups and personal belongings that will deliver one bag per person to the finish line from the starting line. We discourage placing any valuables in your gear bag - just what you need to warm up/eat/drink/etc. Racers are welcome (and encouraged) to use their packet pickup backpack as their gear-drop bag.
