About This Activity
BACKGROUND:The 1st Annual Kingsport, TN WannaWearOne Ostomy 5k will be held on World Ostomy Day on Saturday, October 3, 2015. This event will educate, support, and raise community awareness about people living with ostomies (ostomates) including urostomy, ileostomy, and colostomy. All proceeds benefit the United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc (UOAA) charity, a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible. (https://www.ostomy.org/)
Event details and schedule
RACE COURSE: The event will start and end in the parking lot behind HMG Outpatient Center on Ravine Road. Most of the route is flat although there is a slight incline at the beginning on Gibson Mill Road. The route heads toward downtown Kingsport through residential neighborhoods to Church Circle, and back toward Ravine Road via up Clinchfield Street, ending back at HMG Outpatient Center.
This 5K course is flat except for incline at the beginning. This 5K course is certified by the USATF.
PRIZES: To be announced!
Tech T-shirts will be included with registration if registered before the deadline. Race shirts will be either unisex or female v-neck cut. You are guaranteed a race shirt if you register by September 13th. You may purchase additional race shirts for $10 each.
OPTIONAL OSTOMY POUCH:
Race registration bags will have typical race/sponsor promotional items, ostomy education materials, and most importantly an ostomy pouch. We encourage non-ostomate participants to put on the pouch for the race to improve awareness and empathy for the challenges faced by people living with ostomies.
