The inaugural Cedar Fair Run and Ride Series at Kings Island will have you screaming like a Banshee from ear-to-ear. Half-marathon, 10k and Glow Run 5k participants will have a chance to run through Kings Island while taking in behind-the-scenes views of some of the park’s most popular attractions before the 364-acre amusement park opens its gates.

Registration includes single day admission September 26th for the Glow Run 5k participants and admission for all three days, September 26-28, for the Half Marathon and 10k participants. Don’t want to leave the spouse and kids at home? Bring them along and take advantage of an amazing discounted rate for the entire weekend, and while you soak in the sun, they can enjoy all the world-class rides and attractions Kings Island has to offer.

Glow Run 5k
Friday, September 26th, 2014 7:15 pm

Come and experience the sights and sounds of Kings Island’s annual award-winning Halloween event by taking part in the Glow Run 5k. You and your family and friends can light your way around this spooky 5k course through one of the top-ranked amusement parks in the world with your trusty glow necklace and other glittery attire. Run or walk. It’s up to you! After crossing the finish line with smoke and lasers, you get to head back into the park to experience Halloween Haunt, a veritable playground of terror featuring more than 600 vile creatures lurking in the shadows searching for souls, highly-intense and spine-chilling haunted attractions, and some of the most hair-raising rides on the planet including the new Banshee roller coaster. The Glow Run 5k is untimed which allows you to go at your own pace as you lay down the miles.  Make sure to arrive early to take part in our pre-race contest where we will be giving away prizes for costumes with the most glow, the best bling, and shiniest outfit.

Half-Marathon

This unique and challenging double-loop course will having you passing through the park twice so you’ll get great views of many of the park’s most popular attractions including the new record-breaking Banshee roller coaster, The Beast, Diamondback, Firehawk, Racer and more! Along the course you will get to run back in time to the beginning of the “Age of the Dinosaurs” and encounter the beasts that dominated the planet for over 180 million years in the world’s largest animatronic dinosaur park, Dinosaurs Alive! Finish up your 13.1 miles under the finisher’s arch to cheering family, friends and volunteers. With BibChip timing we will be looking to see who can set the course record for this year-year event. Half-marathon participants enjoy one complimentary entry to the park.

Runners of the Half-Marathon will be required to pass the 6-mile mark by 9:00 am (this is around a 14 minute/mile pace). If racers miss the cut-off, they will be short-coursed to the 10K race.

Banshee 10k

Is that the wail of a Banshee you hear during the 10k race? Yes! It is the scream of the new record-breaking Banshee roller coaster as it screams through seven inversions at speeds up to 68 mph overhead. With the world’s longest inverted roller coaster earning acclaim as one of the best new rides in the world this year, this 10k course will have you checking out this spectacular steel coaster from a variety of angles along the park’s trails. Post run, you’ll want to head back into the park to experience a ride on Banshee for yourself! Following a single loop of the half-marathon course, enjoy the same spectacular sights and sounds of the park as the half-marathon runners without having to expend as much energy. 10k participants enjoy complimentary entry to the park.

Packet pickup information

Packet pickup for all distances is at the following times.

    • Thursday September 25th 4:00-7:00pm

    • Friday September 26th, 2014 3:00-7:00 pm

    • Saturday September 27th, 2014 10:00-noon & 4:00pm - 8:00 pm

  • Packet pickup will be located near the park.  Final location will be announced closer to race day. You will need to pick up your packet to receive your admission ticket to the park and your voucher for reduced-rate parking. If you are picking up your packet for the 5K on Friday, please plan to pick up your packet at least 1 hour before the run starts.

  • There is no race-day packet pickup for the half marathon or Banshee 10K.

  • You may pick up your packet and up to four of your friend’s. You must have a copy of the photo ID and the printout of the Active.com registration signed by each person whose packet you are getting. You will also need to bring signed waivers if the online waiver has not been completed.

  • In the event you cannot race but still want your free or discounted park entry, you will still need to pick up your race packet. We will have packet pickup available from 8am-9am on Sunday morning at the race start for participants to pick up packets who do not want to race but still want to take advantage of free or discounted park entry.

Race day parking information
When you arrive, please show the parking voucher you received during packet pickup to receive a discounted parking rate of $15 per car for the weekend. Discounted parking is only available during online registration. Follow parking attendants’ directions.

Awards (half marathon and 10K only)

Age group awards will be presented 3-deep in all divisions, for all races, for male and female categories:  Under 16, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60+.  . There is also a wheelchair division for the half-marathon. Awards are based on gun time.

Switching from the Half-Marathon to a shorter distance event
If you would like to switch from the half-marathon distance, log into your Active.com account, where you will have the option to change to the 10K or 5K events. There will be no refunds to switch to a shorter-distance event. There is a $15 transfer fee to change events. Transfers can be made up to 1 week before race day.

Timing
The half-marathon and Banshee 10K events will be timed using the MyLaps BibChip system. Start and finish times will be recorded and posted live to the race timing web site and will be available at the finish line through interactive screens at the timing trailer.  Timing chips are disposable, so feel free to keep it as a memento or toss it in the trash. All awards are based off gun time.

The MyLaps tracking timing chip will be attached to your race bib. Your bib should be attached to your front and be clearly visible.

In the event that more than 2,000 participants take part in any of the events, a wave start will be used.  More information will be forth coming closer to race day.

Run and Ride Finish Zone
Once you cross the finish line, you’ll enter the Run and Ride Finish Zone, a fenced-off area designated for participants only. Take some time in the Run & Ride Finish Zone to take on some fluids, refuel with bagels and bananas, receive your finisher's medal, and check out your time on our interactive screens at the timing trailer.

Race Rules

  • Entry fees are nonrefundable. No exceptions.
  • Once we receive and accept your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate and you may not transfer your entry fee to future races.
  • You must be at least 12 years old to participate in the half-marathon and Banshee 10K. You must be 4 years old to participate in the 5K event. (There are sections of the course that go up and down a steep grade.  An alternate route will be available upon request.)
  • Halloween Haunt is intended for mature audiences; not recommended for guests under 13.
  • You must be in good health and physically prepared to take on the challenge of a half-marathon.
  • You must show photo ID to receive your race number.
  • Race numbers are required to participate.
  • No coaches, bikes, in-line skates, skateboards, baby joggers, or dogs will be allowed on the half-marathon course. Strollers are allowed but must start toward the rear.
  • Participants are not allowed to wear earbuds or headphones.
  • Overall winners will not qualify for their age group category awards.

Information Booth and Lost & Found
The information booth will be positioned at the start and finish to assist you with any race-day questions. The information booth will also serve as the race-day Lost & Found. Any valuables found at the start or finish should be turned in to the information booth.  Any valuable items not claimed at the finish by noon will be taken to the park’s lost and found department. To claim a lost item after the event, please contact Kings Island’s Lost & Found.

Cancellations
Entry fees are nonrefundable. Sorry, no exceptions. Entries are transferable to another participant up to 1 week before race day. All transfers must be done through Active.com and there is a $15 transfer fee. Once we receive and accept your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate. You also may not transfer your application to the following year or another Cedar Fair Run and Ride event.

Medical Information
Emergency Medical Services will be stationed at the finish line. The medical team is on site to assist with minor medical emergencies. In the event there are any major medical emergencies, 911 will be called and those in need of care will be transported to the nearest medical facility.
