About Neighborhood House: Since 1906, Neighborhood House has helped diverse communities of people with limited resources in Seattle and King County attain their goals for self-sufficiency, financial independence, health and community building. Because families and individuals living in poverty struggle with a variety of challenges, Neighborhood House focuses on providing wraparound services in the areas of early learning, youth development, employment, adult education, social services, health, financial empowerment and housing stability. With over 200 staff speaking more than 40 languages they are able to provide first language support and culturally relevant programming to low-income families and individuals, with a special focus on immigrants and refugees. To reach people where they live, work, and learn, Neighborhood House services are located in affordable housing developments, public schools, WorkSource lefts, community colleges, and public health clinics.
About KLC South Sudan Community Restoration Program: SSCRP was formed after a large group of South Sudanese families joined Kent Lutheran Church bringing wit them stories of war, relocation, and living as refugees. Now in the wake of South Sudan's independence, people from KLC and the Kent community have combined efforts to help. Near constant war since 1982 has left South Sudan's infrastructure in ruins. While refugees could technocally return, they have no jobs, homes, clean water sources, or schools for their children to attain any quality of life. This proram, focused on a community in the Upper White Nile Region of South Sudan, has a multiyear plan to make repatriation possible for those who which to return, and to improve the quality of life for those who chose to remain.
Why a Fun Run? Both SSCRP and Neighborhood House rely on funding from private contributions and supporting partners to do important work in Kent and around the world. Your participation will have a long-term impact on our community and our world! Thank you!
