Warriors' Best Friend Since the attacks of September 11th, 2001, over 2 million troops have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. For the many men and women returning from multiple tours and long-sustained conflicts, PTSD and TBI have emerged as signature injuries among the newest generation of soldiers. Medical studies prove that services dogs can speed up a soldier's recovery, both physically and emotionally. Unlike other treatments, service dogs provide a lifetime of assistance and companionship. Unfortunately, services dogs have become increasingly demaned -and more and more difficult to obtain. For veterans who cannot afford the steep cost of a service dog, they have no other alternative but to place their name on a waiting list that can be as long as three years. Three years is a lifetime for a veteran for PTSD and TBI.
To provide a solution for our nation's wounded warriors, their families, and affected communities, Warriors' Best Friend initiated Operation: Homestead. This program adopts and trains homeless canines from animal shelters and pairs them with veterans with PTSD and TBI, completely free of charge to veterans and their families.
All service dog training and daily operations are conducted from Warriors' Best Friend's Service Dog Training Facility in Kansas City, Missouri.
