About This Activity

The first annual Walk Off Parkinson's 5K Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, April 10th, 2016 at the historic Knox Field, located at 400 South Perry Street, Johnstown, New York.

Parkinson's Disease is the fourteenth leading cause of death in the United States, yet it persists as one of the least "talked about" disorders in our society. Most commonly found in individuals ages sixty-plus, many people are unaware of the severity of Parkinson's Disease and as a result of this there is a lack of funding for new research. All proceeds from Walk Off Parkinson's will benefit The Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

Walk Off Parkinson's is being completely run and organized by an ambitious pair of young adults, Gregory Mytelka and Jada Diodato, both residents of Gloversville, New York. Both teens are equally enthusiastic about dedicating their time to raising money for Parkinson's Disease research, as Mytelka lost his father to Parkinson's Disease in 2009 and Diodato lost her grandfather to Parkinson's Disease in 2015. Since September 2015, the duo has been raising money for Walk Off Parkinson's and raising awareness of Parkinson's Disease throughout their community.

Event details and schedule

Registration will begin at 11:30 am on Sunday, April 10th, 2016.

The actual 5K race will begin promptly at 1:00 pm, with lineup beginning at 12:45 pm.

Upon arrival at Knox Field, enter through the main gated entrance, between two pillars, on South Perry Street. Immediately in front of you will be the registration table at which a Walk Off Parkinson's volunteer will greet you and complete your registration. All race participants must check in and register at the registration table between 11:30 am and 12:45 pm.

Food vendors, craft vendors, game booths, and community organization booths will be available prior to, during, and after the event for enjoyment by individuals of all ages. Even if you are not participating in the 5K, you are welcome to come and enjoy the fun and support those who are running/walking. General admission for non-race participants is $2.00 per person.

Free street parking is available for all attendees on South Perry Street and on the surrounding streets. More information on the Knox Field facility can be found by clicking here.

Following all participants' completion of the race, a brief awards ceremony will take place. All attendees are welcome to attend the ceremony.

Be sure that you have signed the Walk Off Parkinson's Participant Waiver. Paper copies of this waiver will also be available at the registration table at the event.
