About This Activity
A 3 day, time based stage, gravel grinder!
Staging will be out of the same location every day to keep logistics easier for all. Different routes for each stage but plan on 100 mile days. Full stage challenge will be limited to 100 entries. Categories for Drop bar/Flat Bar/SS and age breaks too (TBD). No prize money, but the glory will be amazeballs.
Can't make the whole weekend? Don't fret, individual stage entries are available as well. Also, Sunday will be bike shop employee appreciation day. Bike shop employees who can only make it out for the Sunday stage will have a $10 entry for that day.
More info soon but schedule the time off if you need it and start training now. It will be a tough course. On course support will be allowed so start talking it up with your teams now.
USA Cylcing Permit 2016-866
Spent the last two days verifying and finalizing the routes and we are good to go! They had a lot of rain/flooding last week so there is lots of recent maintenance. This means LOTS of fresh gravel. At the moment we would definitely suggest more tire is better but a couple of weeks of traffic and additional rain can make a big difference. 95%+ of these roads are rock based so should take rain, even on event day, very well if it happens.
Friday's loop is very good but Saturday's and Sunday's both are amazing. None will be easy but the Saturday and Sunday ones will definitely be tough. All courses will be marked and GPS files will be provided to registered participants. Registered participants will also have access to the Ridewithgps.com premium features free of charge. Those include voice navigation on the app, printable maps, printable cue sheets and live tracking.
Friday West Loop - Only available for 3 day stage racers. 84 miles, 85% unpaved. Full sun almost the entire route. Water table and drop bag stop at mile 46.
Saturday South Loop - 110 miles 80% unpaved. Full sun most of the route. Water table/drop bags mile 45, town (Graham) with quick stores/DQ mile 66, water table/drop bags mile 82, town with quick store (Bryson) mile 82. Lots of climbing with 1 EXTREME climb. This is a great route!
Saturday Short Loop - 59 miles 80% unpaved. Full sun most of the route. Water table mile 32. No towns on route. 1 EXTREME climb.
Sunday North Loop - 103 miles 75% unpaved. Shaded about half of the route. Water table/drop bags mile 35, Town (Bowie) mile 48, water table/drop bags mile 71. LOTS of climbing with several long climbs and 2-3 extreme climbs. Route may be shortened by about 12 miles if raining. This will be a legendary course. People will either love it or hate it. Don't let the increased amount of pavement fool you. You will welcome the paved sections. Mountain bikes will not be out of place on this one at all.
Sunday Short Loop - 42 miles 80% unpaved. Full sun most of the route. NO WATER TABLES OR TOWNS. Pack everything you need to go 50 miles or more just in case. Most of the climbing is in the first 15 miles.
Tent camping at the Start/Finish area (City Park Rec Center) is included with registration. Access to showers/toilets/charging power will be available. There is a State Park right next door that folks can book on their own if they prefer. The State Park does have a number of cabins with bunk beds and AC.
We would definitely appreciate any volunteers who are able to help with Moto, course sweep in trucks, water table set up, etc. Comped entries available if you can help out.
This one is going to be memorable and I have a feeling we'll be talking about it for a long, long time. Spread the word and pick your poison. It will take something special to be able to pull off the full 3 days. I can't wait to see who has got what it takes!
