Pulling together some of the best of one of America's greatest small cities, the Gorges Half, presented by the Cayuga Health System and Medical Center, brings you a taste of Ithaca. The new course will make use of the recently completed Black Diamond Rail Trail, allowing us to create one of the faster and more scenic road'ish half courses you'll find anywhere.
Upping the adventure value, the course use a point to point format, running from the town of Ulysses and ending just shy of the Ithaca Commons. Runners will have a gently rolling opening road mile with the Cayuga Lake valley to one side. From there the course runs downhill over a road half mile before accessing the Black Diamond Trail. From there entrants will be treated to 4.5 miles of a gentle downhill grade over hard-packed cinder, passing numerous waterfalls along the way. After leaving the BDT runners will run point to point along the Cayuga Lake Waterfront Trail, before exiting for a final mile and half through Ithaca's Fall Creek neighborhood.
Each runner will receive the event with 6 aid stations, a catered spread of food and beverage post-race with a band tor relax to, and a finishers bottle, medal of sorts, and cozy SS Tee that you'll hopefully want to wear every day. Additional schwag will be a-la-cart style. A bus ticket from downtown Ithaca can be purchased for those needing a ride to the start. Entrants are permitted to get friends/family to drop them off at the start (note: entrant / spectator vehicles will not be permitted to park at the start - it will be drop-off only). Hopefully we'll luck out with another beautiful weekend in a pretty great part of the world. Join us. And bring a friend.
