5K - Individual 5K
About This Activity
The Huntsville Half and Quarter Marathon & 5K takes place on a loop course that winds though the Sam Houston State University campus, past Captain Byrd Inmate Cemetary, beautiful and tree-lined Bearkat Blvd, and around the infamous Walls Unit (oldest prison in Texas) and what is left of the old historic Prison Rodea Arena. Half Marathoners run the loop course twice, Quarter Marathon runners travel the loop once, and those in the 5K run an abbreviated version of the loop that travels through the SHSU campus. The race starts and ends in the same location on the SHSU campus where nearby locker rooms and showers are available. The course is dotted with several hills (by Houston-area standards) and may not be for the faint of heart, but the scenery and community promise to make the race interesting and encouraging for all who participate. Be forewarned, it could be hot on race day. Temperatures have ranged in the past anywhere from in the mid 50s to the low 80s and as the race progresses, humidity may creep up on you as well.
