In honor of International Women's Day, which falls on April 8, 2022, our race strives to empower women in our communities. We will do this through supporting our youth, specifically young girls. 100% of our net race proceeds will be donated to Girls on the Run (GOTR), a nonprofit organization that strives to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Gender inequity is has undoubtedly improved over the years and while it is important to acknowledge the progress we have made, we still have a long way to go. This year, celebrate International Women's Day by supporting Girls on the Run. In addition to celebrating and supporting women, our race affords you the opportunity to set a goal for yourself and experience first hand how running (or walking!) can help you feel accomplished and empowered.
This is the magic of the GOTR curriculum at work: strengthening a sense of confidence in yourself while fostering care and compassion for yourself and others. We need this now more than ever, in a world where societal obstacles tend to push girls down rather than lift them up. For more information about Girls on the Run, visit their website here.
For the safety of our participants, the Women's Day 5k will be entirely virtual. Choose your own route and (optionally) share your results with everyone on our website . We will have a leaderboard updating as submissions come in so we can see who comes out on top. Everyone is welcome to join including individuals and groups of runners, joggers, and walkers.
The male and female with the fastest time will win a prize. If you win, we will ask for verification of your results. Acceptable verification methods include fitness tracking tools (like Garmin Connect, Training Peak, Polar, etc) or an image/screenshot from a fitness tracker, GPS watch, tracking app on your phone, or treadmill display.
All registrants who submit a time will be mailed a finisher's medal to the address used on their registration. Please note that medals will arrive after the race period. Everyone who submits a time will also receive a finisher's certificate.
One of the benefits of a virtual race is the flexibility! The race period is open March 7-13, 2022. Sleep in, find a fun route, and race on your schedule!
Girls on the Run is an after-school program designed to inspire girls of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength. Lessons emphasize the important connection between physical and emotional health. Through safety modifications and virtual programming, dedicated and trained staff are ready to adapt to local community needs. At the end of the program, girls complete a 5K, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment, setting a confident and goal-oriented mindset into motion.
The Heart & Sole program meets the specific needs of our middle-school girls. It inspires girls to embrace what makes them unique and provides opportunities to practice skills that foster healthy relationships. Creatively using physical activity, girls learn valuable life skills they can use at school, with friends, and at home. Whether girls meet safely in-person or connect virtually this season, Heart & Sole will inspire and empower the next generation of women.
