About This Activity
Are you ready for a fun and whacky running adventure?!
The "ColorMeWild" 5K is an untimed run/walk event organized by the Town of Hilliard's Parks & Recreation Department during the Town's annual Timberfest celebration. Our popular 5K encourages people of all ages and fitness levels to get outdoors, be active, and enjoy the colors of nature... as well as being showered in colored powder, of course!
Packets: Will include a white t-shirt, sponsor "goodies", color bags, route map, and other ColorMeWild gear
Packet pick-up/Check-In: 9:30 AM, the morning-of the event; follow the signs for the "Timberfest 5K"
The fun begins: 10:30 AM; we will release runners in groups promptly at this time and stagger starts until all participants are on their way
Stick around: As we welcome all participants to the finish line, please join us in dousing them with your colors (aim low!) as they cross. At the very end, please stay close by for a group photo of this years' participants.
What to bring to check-in? Your I.D. (all registered children must be checked-in by their parent/guardian)
What should I wear? Please make sure to wear clothing you are comfortable with getting colored... it's going to get everywhere! We recommend white; your body will be like a blank canvas! So be creative and dress up if you would like to.
Is there day-of registration? You bet! $35 day-of registration will be available for this popular event, however we will have a limited number of extras so we encourage everyone to register early so you don't miss out on some awesome ColorMeWild gear!
Is this event timed? No. This is not a competitive run, therefore it will not be timed. Take your time and enjoy the 5K with friends and family!
Are there any other items I might need for the run? Other items to bring may include sunscreen, a change of clothes (maybe even another pair of shoes too!), a bag to hold your colored clothes, a towel (to brush off excess color from your body and/or sit on in your car on your ride home), sunglasses, and don't forget the camera!
Where will we be running/walking? A map of the route will be emailed out a few days prior to the event and available the day-of during registration. The run will either have different "color zones" that you will run through OR beginning-and-ending coloring opportunities.
What is the "color" made out of and is it safe? The colored powder used during the event is actually made out of common kitchen items: baking soda, cornstarch and dyes approved by the FDA. Although we highly recommend eating at one of the many delicious vendors located at Timberfest, it is ok if you get some of the powder in your mouth; it's safe and non-toxic! You will want to try to keep it out of your eyes, though, as it may irritate them.
How should I clean up after the event? Dust off all excess powder before washing with water. Even after taking a shower, there still may be remnants of the colors on your skin. No worries though, it will be gone in a few days. Make sure to wash your now colorful clothes separately from normal clothes in cold water. If you would like to preserve some of the color so that you can wear your cool Color Me Wild item(s) again, spray it with some vinegar and then iron it; that should do the trick!
