The Dominion Valley Sharks Swim Team, located in the Dominion Valley subdivision of Haymarket, Virginia, will host the Fourth Annual “Shark Bite 300” Triathlon Event. The event will be held on Sunday, June 7th , 2015 in the parking lot of the Dominion Valley Athletic Center and will be limited to 300 contestants. The triathlon event itself will consist of 3 segments of varying lengths determined by age group – a swimming segment, a bike ride and a run. The race will start and finish in the Athletic Center parking lot. Timing will be automated with the use of a computerized chip timing system. Medals and gift cards are awarded to the winners of the various age/team categories.
The first segment of the Triathlon is the swimming segment which will be done in the Dominion Valley pool. The 10 and Under age group will swim 4 laps (100 meters), ages 11 – 14 will swim 8 laps (200 meters), and the 15 – 17 and 18 and older age groups will swim 12 laps (300 meters). After a contestant finishes their swim, they will move to a transition area of the parking lot where they will get on their bicycle and begin the riding portion of the event. The 10 and Under age group will ride 5 KM, ages 11-14 will ride 10KM and the 15 – 17 and 18 and older age groups will both ride 12 KM. All bike routes start and end in the Athletic Center parking lot. When a contestant finishes the bicycle portion of the event, they will park their bikes in the designated transition area of the parking lot and begin the run portion of the triathlon event. The 10 and Under age group will run a 1 KM, ages 11-14 will run a 3 KM and the 15 – 17 and 18 and older will run a 5 KM. Again, all running routes begin and end in the Athletic left parking lot.
