About This Activity

Join HYP for the 5 Miler for 5 Charities on Saturday, October 4th in Downtown Harrisburg! The 5 Miler for 5 welcomes all abilities, as well as those who would like to walk or jog with their dog or kids in strollers.

The race starts and finishes on City Island in Harrisburg. The race course takes in some of the most scenic areas of Harrisburg, starting at City Island, running through Riverside Park, then along the Capital Area Greenbelt and the Susquehanna River.

The 2014 HYP 5-Miler Run/Walk for 5 Charities will benefit:

  • HYP Junior Sports
  • Andrew's Gift (Autism Charity)
  • Harrisburg Public Schools Foundation
  • Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
  • Harrisburg Police Department

Children, dog and strollers are welcome.

A walk begins at 8:30 am, and the run begins at 9:00 am, on City Island. Packet Pickup and Day of Registration begins at 7:30 am on City Island. Free drink for participants at the after party hosted by Arooga's!

Charity Details:

Andrew's Gift -- Andrew’s Gift was established for charitable and educational purposes made possible through the generosity of local founding donors and non-profit organizations. It is the mission of Andrew’s Gift to empower individuals and families by providing awareness, assistance, and financial support to optimize the potential of all individuals with autism within their home, educational programs, and community settings.
HYP Junior Sports League -- The HYP Junior Sports League helps over 80 at-risk youth across the city by volunteering at local organizations such as the YMCA and Boys' and Girls' Club. During each 6 week session, children learn the benefits of teamwork and good sportsmanship as they play kickball and wiffleball with professionals from around the city.

Harrisburg Public Schools Foundation -- The Harrisburg Public Schools Foundation works closely with local schools to enhance educational opportunities for youth across the city. Increasing academic achievement is one of their missions that they accomplish through community partnerships and bringing together resources, financial support and volunteers.

Leukemia and Lymphoma -- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.

Harrisburg Police Department -- The Harrisburg Police Department facilities are in need of updating to help our local officers better serve the community. Funds from the race will help support remodeling of the victim advocacy room as well as other areas to improve police services.

Arrival Info:

You can pick up your race bag on the day of the race from 7:30am-8:45am at the Carousel Pavilion on City Island. 

Parking Info:

Ample parking is available for free on City Island.

Showers and Restrooms:

Portable restrooms available at the start and finish of the race. No showering facilities provided.
