About This Activity

THE KING OF THE ROGUE is a multi-lap, Class IV (expert) whitewater event for 4-person rafts, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs). The course through Ti'lomikh Falls/Powerhouse Rapids is designed by Olympic Gold Medalist Oliver Fix. This is the King of the Rogue!  Proceeds from the event will support the Gold Hill Whitewater Park.

CATEGORIES/COURSE: Each category (raft, kayak, SUP) will compete in a 3 lap race. Start times will be scheduled to allow for people to compete in more than one category. The first lap begins just above the foot bridge at the top of Powerhouse Rapids and follows buoys and slalom gates to "Grandma's Run," a Class III rapid ending with a sheer drop of about 7 feet.  Racers will then paddle back up river in the slack water channel along the river-left bank and portage across an island.  The second is lap down the main drop called Powerhouse to land on Mugger's Island and portage across. The third lap will be down Mugger's Alley (with an optional portage around Mugger's Rock) to the finish line.

(For a video of to young paddlers doing Grandma's Run and the portage, click HERE.)

PRO RAFT RACERS: We will have the raft race category start last to help facilitate time for our professional guides in the area to join in the fun! We plan on having raft starts as late as 5:00 PM, so get your company team ready for some friendly competition!

RACE FEES: You may enter more than one event. The first event is $25.00 ($15.00 event insurance fee + $10.00 event fee) with additional events at $10.00 each. Registration is available online at (there is a $3.25 processing fee in addition to event registration fees). Registration will be available the day of the event, but the price per category will increase to $15.00. KING of the ROGUE T-Shirts will be available for $15.00 to participants and $20.00 to the general public. Quantities will be limited so be sure to buy yours early!

REQUIREMENTS/RULES: PFD'S, HELMETS & APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR for carrying your boat over rocks are required (No bare feet or flip flops). Elbow pads and kneepads are recommended for SUPs. You must of course sign a waiver. The minimum age is 15 with parental consent. THE SAFETY MEETING IS MANDATORY. This race is intended as friendly competition. Assisting other teams or paddlers in distress may earn sponsor prizes. Failure to assist in an emergency may result in disqualification.

Rules will generally follow World Rafting Association Guidelines and will be explained during the safety meeting. Keep in mind that the river flow, the weather, the rules, and the race course can change without notice. Judging may be arbitrary and downright blind.

PRIZES: Prizes will be awarded for the fastest raft, kayak and SUP. Winners of the RAFT RACE will be presented with Special Edition King of the Rogue MX oars. That is a set to each member of the team, 8 oars in total! The winner of the kayak race will receive a Special Edition King of the Rogue Kayak Paddle and the top SUP racer will receive a Special Edition Whitewater SUP paddle. All top prizes are provided by our main sponsor Sawyer Paddles & Oars. Other prizes from sponsors will be awarded for accomplishments that may include "best rescue" and "longest wait in the Green Room."
