About This Activity

The Bill Landers Building Bridges Memorial Hybrid 5K Run/Walk (or "BL5K") is an annual event held in Glastonbury, Connecticut.  The race is sanctioned, and serves as a qualifier for the Manchester Road Race.  The 13th annual event will have in-person and virtual options in 2021.  First, an in-person race will be held on June 12, 2021,  Participants will start in socially-distanced groups at 8:30 and run the traditional BL5K route, with bib chip timing.

Second, participants also have the option to participate in the run/walk virtually, between June 1 and June 11.  Those who choose the virtual option may run, jog or walk a 5K (3.1 mile) race in locations of their choosing - indoors on a treadmill, along the traditional BL5K route, or along any other outdoor route.  Virtual bibs and finisher certificates will be provided to those who choose the virtual option.  Those who choose the virtual option must record their distances and times using a standard run-type application (e.g., Runkeeper, Nike Run Club, Strava, Adidas Running, Map My Run) and return to this site to enter their time, or to simply indicate that they finished the race.

Please note that the in-person race may be further modified or canceled if guidance or restrictions from the Town of Glastonbury, the State of Connecticut or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) change.  In the event that we are required to cancel the in-person race, participants who registered for the in-person race will be given the opportunity to change to the virtual option, and receive a refund of the difference in fees, or to receive a full refund.  We ask that all participants remain flexible, and monitor their E-mail accounts for updates or further guidance as the race approaches.

This event is sponsored by the Glastonbury Education Foundation, and enhances its ability to fund programs, projects and initiatives that elevate the educational experience of Glastonbury residents.  Each year, the Glastonbury Education Foundation awards two Bill Landers Memorial Scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, to one male graduate and one female graduate of Glastonbury High School who will attend one of the four schools in the Connecticut State University system, as Bill did.  The presenting sponsor for the 2021 Bill Landers Memorial Hybrid 5K Run/Walk is Melocowsky & Melocowsky Law Firm of Glastonbury.
