About This Activity

One of the dirtiest words has a few more than four letters.

Racism is something almost everyone experiences at some point in their life, and that is unacceptable.

The YWCA tagline – eliminating racism and empowering women – emphasizes our desire to teach everyone about the need for equality. Equality is more than tolerance. We should not just “tolerate” those who are different than us, we must learn to appreciate their differences and acknowledge how a diverse society makes a better society.

Our racial justice programs are free to the public, but the YWCA does incur some costs. To help offset these costs, and hopefully grow our educational opportunities, the YWCA Gettysburg & Adams County joins other YWs in Pennsylvania in hosting a Race Against Racism.

Proceeds from this 5-mile race benefit all of these programs. As you run through the beautiful Cumberland Township countryside, you can think about how you are helping all of those who have experienced these terrible injustices.

First- and second-place awards are presented to men and women in the following age categories: under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and older.
