About This Activity

A 100k Individual and Team Relay by the Top of Michigan Trails Council

Since 2015 will be the 5th year, we wanted to shake things up a bit. We have been busy trying to make the Rail Run 100 bigger and better.  Here are the changes we have made so far...
1. Staggered start times

This helps us get more people to the finish line for the after party and awards ceremony
2. Some relay changes
There will still be the traditional two-person and six leg relay, although there will be a slight change to both divisions.
For the two person teams, one member must run the complete first leg, and the second runner must run the complete second leg. After the Wolverine check point, runners can exchange at any point on the course. Since this has been done since the first year, we might as well make it official.
The traditional six person team event will now be a six leg race, and teams may have as few as 5, or as many as 6 members. All exchanges will take place at the traditional check points, Vanderbilt, Wolverine, Indian River, Topinabee and Cheboygan. If a team has less than 6 runners, a runner may complete one additional leg, but all exchanges must take place at the check points.
Because of feedback from our competitors, a new division has been created, a seven leg relay team. These teams must consist of 6 or 7 runners, and will have an added check point. The last exchange will take near the midpoint between Cheboygan and Mackinaw City. We decided to split that 16 mile leg to make it easier for teams who cant find someone willing to take on that tough final leg of the race.
So, gather up your friends, and start making plans!
3. New scoring system and more awards

For the two person and six leg divisions, the awards will be as follows...First overall and first all female teams(no handicapping). More awards may be added if the race director determines there are enough teams to create more divisions
For the seven leg race, the first team overall and first all female team will receive awards. Then it gets interesting. Instead of using the handicapping system from previous years, we will be doing an age averaging system.
To be eligible for the Master's Division, a team must have an average age of 45 to 64.9. To be eligible for the Grand Master's Division, a team must have an average age of 65 or higher. So, team captains, sharpen your pencils and put your thinking caps on. Its time to crunch some numbers and see what kind of team you can put together! Again, if we have enough teams, and can create more divisions, we just may do that! We want as many people as possible to have a chance to win one of our custom, hand made trophies.
4. First Responder/Military Relay

We are very excited this year to have a special race for teams made up of first responders and military members, both active duty and retired. So get down to the station house, barracks or VFW, and get your buddies together. You will be racing to be the first team to have your names on the Everyday Hero's trophy! This trophy will go home with the winning team...until next year, when you must bring it back and defend your victory!
5. Team Building Pool

For those of you who are having trouble finding enough friends to make a full 6, or 7 leg team, go here SignUpGenius to create your team. There you will be able to enter your name, age, what leg you would like to run. You can contact others on the list, and create a team. Once your on a team, please take yourself off the list.  Our goal is to make sure we can find teams for as many runners as possible, so if you cant come up with enough running buddies, let us help you make some new ones.
