A 100k Individual and Team Relay by the Top of Michigan Trails Council

The Relay

Want to try your first relay race? The Rail Run 100 Relay is great for first-timers, as well as for seasoned teams seeking a fun event with on a nice rural trail.  The six member team categoriy is age/gender handicapped on race day, which allows flexibility in assembling your team. Here is the handicapping chart:

40-49 1% per year

50-54 14%

55-59 18%

60-64 - 21%

65-69 26%

70 and over 30%

Women receive an additional 10%

The 62.2 -mile course is on the hard-packed, crushed limestone North Central State Trail. The trail runs from Gaylord to Mackinaw City, with each relay leg at a community on the trail. The trails gentle grade is excellent for running with spectacular views. There are six individual legs, with each team member running one leg. The shortest leg is 5.6 miles, while he longest is 16.3 miles. Exchanges are well-marked and manned by volunteers. Method of exchange is a simple touch off by hand. There is also a 2 member team category, with the team members running multiple legs of the course.

Rail Run 100 Individual Ultra

As with the relay, the ultra events are excellent venues for runners stepping up to a 100K or seasoned runners looking for a fast time. The trail is generally smooth with the first 31 miles experiencing a gradual elevation drop of 770 feet.

Categories are Open (under 45), Masters (+45), for both male and female. All ultra participants will receive their own unique ultra garment.

Results and Awards

Results will be available as soon as possible after the race at this Web site. Awards will be given to the top finishers in each category/division.

Event schedule and times

Start Time is 6:00 am for both individual and team.  All racers must be off the course by 5:30 pm. Early start times will be available for individuals and teams to enable them to finish by 5:30 pm
