About This Activity
Cross the Six Bridges of Hope Run Through the Tunnel of Success
Walk, run or ride in a stroller across a gorgeous track. There are six physical bridges runners must cross and one tunnel to run through to reach the finish line. These represent the six hurdles that homeless families must cross to reach self-sufficiency, and passing through the tunnel represents Thomas House being the light at the end of the tunnel. This event is Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Mile Square Regional Park.

This race course is a scenic course that is flat (except for two 50 foot stretches) and runners cross six bridges that represent steps that the homeless with young children need to cross to become self sufficient and the runners pass through one tunnel signifying that, for the homeless with young children, Thomas House is the light at the end of the tunnel.
Parking for the race is available both inside and outside the Mile Square Regional Park and on the streets around the park. The parking at Mile Square Regional Park will open at 6am and the normal $5 parking fee will be waived for all Run 4 Homeless Children participants, volunteers, and vendors! (Consider donating the saved $5 to Thomas House.) The first two maps show the parking inside the park. There is also some on-the-street parking in the area. There are only a few crosswalks for Euclid Street and Edinger Avenue and the distances of the on-the-street parking to Forest Shelter take into account the need to cross at a crosswalk. The third map shows the locations of the on-the-street parking.
Free street parking near Mile Square Regional Park
There are several areas of legal street parking near Mile Square Regional Park. All of these parking places entail a walk of at least 0.1 miles to over 1.5 miles.
Euclid Street west side [0.1 to 0.8 miles]
There are stretches of the west side of Euclid Street which are legal for parking. The closest parking on Euclid Street (across from Lavender Avenue) is 0.1 miles from the Forest Shelter. As the parking on the west side of Euclid Street approaches Edinger Avenue, the distance to Forest Shelter approaches 0.8 miles
Euclid Street east side
There is no legal parking by Mile Square Regional Park on the east side of Euclid Street.
Edinger Avenue south side [0.8 to 1.5 miles]
There is parking in multiple areas on the south side of Edinger Avenue. Between Euclid Street and Ward Street, the distance to Forest shelter varies from 0.8 to1 mile. West of Ward Street, the distance to Forest Shelter increases from one mile to 1.5 miles.
Edinger Avenue north side [0.8 to 1.3 miles]
There is parking in multiple areas on the north side of Edinger Avenue. The problem is that the only cross walks to cross Edinger Avenue are at Euclid Street, Ward Street and Brookhurst Street. What about jay walking across Edinger Avenue? That is illegal and cars travel on Edinger Avenue at high speeds in both directions and are not expecting any jay walkers. So this is extremely dangerous and illegal and I want you to be around to run my race next year.
But there are traffic lights and pedestrian cross walks at Ward Street and Euclid Street. Parking on the north side of Edinger Avenue results in a walk of 0.8 to1.3 miles.
Parking east of Euclid Street [0.4 to 0.7 miles]
As stated before, parking on the east side of Euclid Street is illegal. But there is a residential area east of Euclid Street and located on Heil Avenue, Lavender Avenue and Stonecress Avenue where people can park. To cross Euclid Street, one has to go to Heil Avenue where there is a traffic light and cross walks. The distances from these parking places to Forest Shelter are 0.4 to 0.7 miles.
