The members of the Winnebago Association of Kiteboarders (WAK) are excited to be hosting the 35th annual World Ice and Snow Sailing Championships in conjunction with the Sturgeon Stampede Kiteboarding Classic. The Stampede will be held off the SE shores of frozen Lake Winnebago with access to the event from Roosevelt Park and Sunset on the Water Grill and Bar.  “This year offers a unique opportunity to race with the best sailers and kiters in the world right here in the USA on the frozen surface of Lake Winnebago.”

Many of the United States’ best kiteboarders will be joined by a host of international ice enthusiasts off the shores of Lake Winnebago to show off their favorite tricks while competing in a variety of events. The Stampede will offer the less competitive riders a 3 day option to race with the WISSA competitors Thursday through Saturday.   Events will be scheduled from morning to dark each day, wind permitting.

Kiteboarding is the fastest growing water and snow sport in the world, and can be enjoyed year round, on snow, ice, or water. It combines the fundamentals of wakeboarding or snowboarding, along with flying a 3 to 16 meter kite for power. The power of the kite allows jumps and tricks often exceeding 20 feet, and the ability to free ride for hours at a time. No gasoline or lift ticket required!
