About This Activity
Why Support this EVENT: The Highlands Chapter was established on April 17, 1917. A committee, led by Mrs. C.C. McAllister, wanted to get involved in the Red Cross effort to support the military as they became entangles in World War I. An organization meeting was held in the Market House in downtown Fayetteville to establish a Red Cross Auxiliary. A few months later, the committee reorganized as the Fayetteville Chapter. Only a few months later, reorganization created the Cumberland County Chapter.
Since then, the American Red Cross Highlands Chapter (ARCHC) has been providing lifesaving services to our local community. Each and every year we touch 1 out of 10 lives in our five-county service area with a population of more than 588,500 people. We are part of the Triangle Region, based in Raleigh, that is comprised of five chapters and serves a population of more than 2.75 million people across a 20-county area providing relief to victims of disaster and helping people prepare for, prevent, and respond to emergencies.
ARCHC has served Bladen, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, and Sampson counties for over 90 years. It is a partner agency of the Cumberland and Harnett United Way Organizations and the Hoke County United Fund. Our services, however, may reach the entire world. Our volunteers and staff members may be called to serve at down the street, across the country or around the world.
Event details and schedule
Race Description:This year, the 9th Run for the Red 10K (7:15) & 5K (7:20) Road Race will be managed by Fayetteville Elite Running and our goal is to maintain the tradition from previous race organizers by maintain the cash prizes, the Group Trophy and adding few more Age Groups and to have a top of the line event with 2 great but though USA Track & Field Certified Courses in the Historic Downtown Fayetteville area that includes Historic Haymount. In the past, people gave this event the nickname of the “Hottest Race in the South” but in the last few years we have moved the event to an early start and the average temperatures are in the low 70’s which is still pretty cool for running. As you Race Director I would ask you to come down and support the Red Cross in this wonderful fundraiser for this organization that their main goal is to support others as you
