About This Activity
We are excited to announce the return of the Annual Runners with a Reason Dipsy Doodle Dash & Liberty Mountain Challenge to be held in conjunction with Liberty Mountain Resort’s 2017 Fall Festival, 15 October 2017 at 2:00pm. The distinctly different and daring Dash (1-mile race) and the Challenge for the courageous and slightly cautious (1-mile walk) to the top of Liberty Mountain will kick off this year’s festival.
Runners with a Reason is a group of high school runners, coaches, and volunteers that have come together to help others (to have a reason to run). Every year, this group of coaches and volunteers put together a Cross Country Running Camp for up to 40 runners from Delone Catholic, Fairfield and other local high schools. This camp is 100% volunteer run and operates on donations and fundraisers.
This year’s reason for running the Dipsy Doodle Dash is to support Tommy Laudani, a 17 year old Cross Country runner from Delone. In November of 2016, Tommy was diagnosed with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumors (DSRCT), a very rare and aggressive type of cancer. Tumors start in the abdomen and rapidly spread to the different organs. Tommy’s has bravely endured 12 rounds of chemotherapy, with more to come and multiple surgeries. As a Cross Country runner, Tommy loves any type of running challenge and we are thrilled to be able to honor him and his family with funds raised by this year’s race. Also benefiting are the XC programs at both schools.
