The 3rd Annual Fairfield Police Sunset 5K is Presented by MONECO Advisors. All proceeds will be donated to the Fairfield Police Union Scholarship Fund & The Friends of the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities. You can run (3.1 miles) or walk (1 mile) course.
After a one-year hiatus, we are back and planning another great, family-friendly evening in Fairfield. Don't miss out.
This year we are limited to 650 runners & walkers in keeping with the CT State guidelines. We will follow and exceed all of the safety protocols mandated and bring you the highlight of the summer!
We invite all abilities to run our 3.1 mile scenic & flat course or walk our separate 1 mile course, that we have designed for you.
Starting and ending at Penfield Beach, this summer spectacular will include t-shirts, food & fluids (if allowed by race day Covid guidelines). We will update our offerings as more details become available.
OUR REGISTRATION IS OPEN. THERE WILL BE A LIMIT OF 650 FOR OUR 5K EVENT AND WE ARE NEARLY SOLD OUT AS OF JULY 7.
IMPORTANT DETAILS - The 5K distance is a computer chip timed event. You may run or walk in this event but must complete the entire distance or be disqualified.
The one mile walk IS NOT timed and is a different course than the 5K. All 5K and one mile participants receive the same shirts and amenities.
We will offer online-only registration only for these events. If it is not sold out then online registration will be open until 15 minutes before the start on July 21.
No paper/in-person registration will be available on the day of the event.
4/1- $30 ALL AGES in the 5K for the first 100 registered
$35 all ages in the 5K- registrants from 101 - 400
$40 all ages in the 5K- registrants from 401 - 500 and on race day IF NOT SOLD OUT
$35 flat fee, for all ages in the one mile untimed walk. This fee remains $35 through 7/21.
$10 Food truck ticket FOR NONREGISTERED only. Spectators, friends, & family will need to pay for this ticket to access any food and fluids. Must be done by 6pm on July 21st. Registered (PAID) participants DO NOT NEED TO DO THIS - it’s included in your fee!
April 1- Registration opens
July 6- Tshirt size guarantee ends (after that only "As Available" - and we could run out)
July 19- Early bib/shirt pickup at SoundRunner, Post RD. in Fairfield from 3-6 pm.
July 20- 11:30am-1pm Early bib/shirt pickup at SoundRunner AND 3-6pm at Soundrunner
July 21- 4:45pm - 6:15 pm bib/shirt pickup NO REGISTRATION- WE ARE SOLD OUT! Located at theJacky Durrell Pavilion on Fairfield Beach
6:20pm - Introduction & National Anthem and Team Triumph start
6:30pm - START of timed 5k distance and One-mile untimed walk. 6:35pm - Food trucks open, water, fluids, Athletic Brewing non alcoholic craft beer, Sierra Nevada (21 & over only, ID REQUIRED) & entertainment.
There will not be race day registrations if we have reached our 650 limit.
An announcement will be made on this page if the registration has closed prior to July 21.
Shirt size choices will not be guaranteed after July 6- after that only sizes ‘as available’ will remain- and we may run out.
The Penfield Beach area is scenic, quiet, and surrounded by a welcoming neighborhood of supporters. There will be ample parking right nearby as well as just 3/10 mile down the road at Jennings Beach. We want to thank the neighbors and friends in the area for their support and patience while we host this fundraising event.
Our 5k event will start at 6:30pmgiving you a full 2 hours before sunset AND another half hour of wonderful twilight!
The 5k Run (or you can walk) will be computer CHIP timed.
There are 5k Awards this year! We will have:
First place trophies to overall male & female, Medals to top 3 in age groups 9 & under, 10-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, & ten year groups to 80+
REMEMBER- paid participants in the 5k event and one mile events are welcome to enjoy our post-event food and fluids- it’s included in your registration fee. We ask any family or friends not to take items that are for our paid participants. They can buy a $10 food ticket and join us. Thank you.
PLEASE READ THE SAFETY MODIFICATIONS THAT ALIGN WITH CT STATE GUIDELINES - THEY ARE OUTLINED BELOW.
COVID CONCERNS- Thanks to the Town Departments of Fairfield, we will be able to present a completely outdoor event. Safe distances and safety protocols will be in place, and state guidelines will be adhered to.
HOWEVER-We will be prepared for any change that can happen at any time, which may mean a suspension of this live event, and result in a 'virtual' run.
COSTS-With fixed costs and pre-payment of many items, we CANNOT under any conditions REFUND any registration fees. Whether we are live or virtual, our commitment to our charity partners will be maintained. We hope you can support this commitment and join us.
IMPORTANT DETAIL- There will be a 650 person limit for this 5k event. We encourage everyone to donate any additional amount to our charity partners. Your donation is fully tax-deductible.
MASKS REQUIRED- We must adhere to all safety protocols, so please help us by keeping masks on prior to the start line and immediately after you finish IF YOU ARE NOT VACCINATED. Please keep a safe distance when you arrive, warm-up, chat with friends, and after you are done.
MODIFICATIONS FOR A SAFE START- We will be using a chip-timed, "open start" format which has been successfully used in various races around the state. We can now start our full field of 650 all at once. YOUR CHIP TIME STARTS WHEN YOU CROSS THE START LINE. If you are more comfortable starting a distance behind the “group” your 5K course time will start only when you cross the line.
WE NEED YOUR HELP FOR A SAFE START- If you are truly at a speedier running level (6-7min pace per mile or under), we urge you to be at the start early and ready to go at 6:30 pm. This will avoid crowding on the course and help everyone to run more safely. Thanks!
ONLY THE FIRST PLACE male & female, and first place police division, will be asked to be part of the awards ceremony. ALL AGE GROUP AWARDSwill be distributed at the Finish Line table next to the computer timer. You must pick up there. If not they will be left at the main desk of the Fairfield Police Station on Reef Rd starting July 22. No awards will be mailed.
All finishing times will be available online, after the completion of the event. You can also opt-in to receive your results by text.

The Friends of the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit volunteer organization. The mission of “the Friends” is to provide funding for enhancements to the programs, services, and facilities of the Senior Center of Fairfield, CT. In addition, the organization hosts fundraising events, promotes community awareness and supports the Senior Center through advocacy initiatives.
Captain Keith Broderick is the Event Coordinator & Police Liaison. Eric Johnson, VP of MONECO Advisors, is our Co-Coordinator & Title Sponsor.
Race management provided by MS Running Productions & Marty Schaivone. MSRP directs over 45 charity events in CT each year. Proceeds in these events totaled over $250,000 in charitable donations in 2019.
YES, WE ARE RUNNING AND WALKING IN ANY WEATHER unless it is lightning- then we will delay it until the police say OK. Please don't email unless it is an emergency - in which case you should be dialing 9-1-1 & not emailing a race director! We can't postpone to another date and we can't refund. But WE CAN HAVE FUN and enjoy the food trucks, adult hydration (if available per Covid guidelines on race day), and 500 friends who understand that weather reports are wrong more than half the time!
