Excelsior Springs, MO
About This Activity
Excelsior Springs, Mo., boasts a unique heritage thanks to the discovery of several varieties of mineral water springs that historically attracted flocks of tourists and health-seekers from around the world. The Hall of Waters & Cultural Museum (pictured above) was built in the 1930s to make all of the mineral waters available at fountains. The Art Deco building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and still serves a vibrant role in the life of our community. We celebrate this heritage every year during Waterfest, a city-wide festival.
A fairly flat, out-and-back 5K course begins in downtown Excelsior Springs at the Hall of Waters Historic District sign where S. Thompson Avenue begins (near the Chamber of Commerce office). The course runs in front of the historic Hall of Waters before connecting with the paved trail through scenic Fishing River Linear Park. While running on this trail, participants will also pass by the Superior Well and Pagoda, the last remaining original mineral water spring pagoda in town.
The event also includes a stroller- and wagon-friendly two-mile walk and a 1-mile kids fun run (for kids 10 and under).
A special rate of $10 applies to all students (use the coupon code "STUDENT").
After the race, you can enjoy the rest of the festival located near the start/finish line. This three-day event features arts, crafts, live entertainment, and water games for the kids, classic car-hot rod and truck show, parade and much more. The EX-Factor singing competition will return, as well as headliner bands.
