About This Activity
The 2015 Rural Route 13.1 is excited to build off the success of our inaugural event in 2014! New this year is the addition of a 13.1 mile bike ride. We will follow the same scenic course as last year taking participants on a tour of the rolling hills surrounding Esbon. Participants will run, walk, or bike on serene country roads alongside open pastures, wheat waving in the Kansas wind and freshly planted fields of corn and soybeans.
Our event will begin and end at the newly renovated Esbon Community Center. Hardworking residents of our small town selflessly volunteer their time and talents to make our community a place that we are proud to call home. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go towards the Esbon Community Alliance to help with future projects and community events.
A majority of the event's proceeds will go towards The Zach Kindler Memorial Scholarship. A native of Esbon, Zach unexpectedly passed away in August 2014 at the age of 35. In addition to being a devoted husband and father, he was an accomplished athlete. His resume boasted a National Championship in javelin while at Fort Hays State University and successful career coaching track and field and cross county, most recently at Baker University.
In lieu of a medal, all finishers will have the opportunity to customize their own commemorative limestone rock. The after race party will include a hot post-race brunch, awards ceremony, and socializing. We look forward to seeing you in May!
