About This Activity

Walk 'N Roll for Lung Cancer Awarenes in Memory of Ron E. Fooks Sr.

Let’s walk! Let’s roll! Let’s Walk ‘N Roll for Lung Cancer Awareness!

Please join us for the 1st annual “Walk N’ Roll for Lung Cancer Awareness” on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Parvin State Park to remember the life of our Dad, Ron E. Fooks Sr., known to many as Big Ron.

Our Dad passed away Thanksgiving morning 2013, after a 3-year battle with small cell carcinoma lung cancer. We know it wasn’t easy for him, especially undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation while still working full-time and playing in his band The Good Tymes. Dad kept rockin’ but Dad kept fighting and fighting and fighting. We believe that the support of his family, friends and coworkers at Pittsgrove Township Public Works is what really kept dad going and not giving up.

This 5K Fun Walk gives us a chance to keep Big Ron’s spirit alive, and keep his fight going for others who are still battling in hopes of finding a cure for cancer. Nearly 170,000 Americans are diagnosed with lung cancer each year – that’s more than breast, prostate, colon, ovarian, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and melanoma cancers combined. Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer, yet lung cancer receives the fewest research dollars. That’s why we are committed to making a difference. All proceeds will benefit Every Breath Counts, an organization that Dad supported, which raises awareness and funding for lung cancer research and support programs in the South Jersey area.

All participants will receive a special Walk ‘N’ Roll t-shirt and refreshments will be provided. Plus enjoy music from Harry Snyder the Music Machine and a Chinese Auction with donations from several local businesses including a few of Big Ron’s favorite places like Golden Nugget Atlantic City!

So please join us on April 4th. Walk with us. Roll with us. Fight with us.

If you are unable to participate in the walk, feel free to make a donation in memory of Ron E. Fooks Sr. by visiting: www.everybreathcounts.net.

ESPN anchor Stuart Scott recently passed away from cancer and one of his final quotes was, "fight like hell...and when you get too tired to fight, then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you."

Now it's our turn to fight...
